The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in automotive service and repair, with the ability to analyze vehicle conditions and estimate repair costs accurately. This role requires excellent negotiation processes to ensure fair assessments of vehicle values.
Duties
- Examines damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical or interior damage.
- Handles inspections of vehicles to assess their condition and determine necessary repairs.
- Communicates with customers through the entire process.
- estimates cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged item.
- Analyze data from various sources, including service records and market trends, to provide accurate appraisals.
- Utilize mechanical knowledge to identify issues and estimate repair costs effectively.
- Reviews repair cost estimates with Body Shop Manager or Foreman.
- Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement of parts, such as bumpers, fenders and doors.
- Evaluates practicality of repair as opposed to payment of vehicle market value before accident.
- Negotiate with clients and insurance companies regarding appraisal values and repair estimates.
- Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations.
- Maintain detailed records of appraisals, including photographs and written reports.
- Estimates cost of repainting, converting to special purposes or customizing undamaged vehicles.
- Stay updated on industry trends, auto restoration techniques, and advancements in automotive technology.
Experience
- Proven experience in auto estimating, automotive repair, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of vehicles and their components.
- processes within the automotive industry is a plus.
- Experience in auto service management or service writing can be beneficial.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess vehicle conditions accurately.
- Strong negotiation skills to advocate for fair appraisal values.
