Qualifications for Unit Assistant:

High school diploma or GED
-
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
-
Must have a strong work ethic and desire to learn
-
Must enjoy working with the elder population
-
Must have patience and a cheerful disposition and maintain a positive attitude
-
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds

Maintain confidentiality of resident information
Responsibilities for Unit Assistant:
-
Answer the phone with a professional response
- Cumminication skills to ensure Nursing receives messages from the caller
- Filing of paperwork into the medical record
- Make physician appointments for the patients
- Keep nursing resource documents up to date (CNA assignment sheets for example)
- Book transportation for residents to get to their appointments

Replenish and restock nursing supplies

Assist with delivering meal trays

Answer call lights and personal alarms promptly. Report any findings to the nursing staff

Meet and greet new residents and family members
-
Responds positively and timely to all residents, family members and co-workers
-
Maintains resident confidentiality
-
Transports residents to different locations throughout the building when needed
