Job Summary
- We are looking for a qualified professional with experience in utility construction to perform the role of Fiber Optic Drop Designer. This role is responsible for designing and delivering those designs for our construction team to perform installation. It requires an in-depth understanding of current fiber optic design standards and industry processes. The drops will mostly be rural residential services with a mix of aerial and underground drops and there will be no permitting requirements. Plans will need to be created to serve single residences. The Drop Designer is fully responsible and accountable for the final design document generation to support the placement of the physical fiber infrastructure supporting the home or business.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate, document, and adhere to provided design requirements
- Coordinate with the fielding team on specific site visit schedules and data gathering requirements
- Create high level preliminary route design and facility specifics to manage fielding request instructions of construction featuring aerial, underground, or a hybrid of both for single family residences
- Perform detailed OSP designs specifically adhering to design standards provided
- Perform design within allocated time frames with the expectation that the turn around be roughly 5 to 20 days
- Provide design lead with updates on progress and roadblocks
Required Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge and experience in ArcGIS or ARC mapping
- Experience in interpreting design specifications provided and apply design standards to the product
- Familiarity with construction of ADSS fiber systems and solutions provided by AFL
- Knowledge and understanding with GIS web applications and the GIS design domain
- Knowledge of industry and technology trends with respect to both Aerial and Underground utilities construction
- Knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
- Knowledge of process and procedures for project controls and estimating
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour
