Wolf Trap for the Performing Arts seeks an Early Childhood Arts Specialist to provide content development and quality oversight for programs and activities of the Wolf Trap Institute with a specific focus on workshop and digital content creation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Partner with teaching artists to develop new workshop content and live webinar offerings, ensuring content quality, effectiveness, and grounding in research-based, best practices in the arts, early childhood, and adult education.
  • Update existing workshop and digital offerings and ensure that content is current.
  • Develop and prepare resources, materials, agendas, PowerPoint presentations, and workshop handouts to accompany workshop and digital content.
  • Collect feedback and perspectives from Institute staff on newly created content and incorporate edits and suggestions, as appropriate.
  • Support development of multimedia products in partnership with Assistant Director, Education Communications & Strategy. 
  • Monitor residencies and provide lesson and content feedback to teaching artists in their classroom residencies and other activities, to ensure quality and best practices in accordance with the Wolf Trap model (portfolio assigned)
  • Make recommendations for teaching artist professional development offerings to Manager, Teaching Artist Services.
  • Stay current with trends and initiatives in Early Childhood Education, STEM, adult learning, coaching, virtual learning, professional standards, and academic content and approaches.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Wolf Trap Teaching Artists locally and in affiliate sites to ensure high quality programming and alignment with the Wolf Trap model.
  • Consult on and serve as back-up for other teaching artist professional development activities, as requested. 
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director, Early Childhood Development and Learning, Early Arts Specialist, and Manager, Teaching Artist Services to design and implement Annual Teaching Artist Resource Night and contribute to Affiliates Annual Meeting.
  • Special projects as assigned by Vice President, Education and/or Director, Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts
  • Represent Wolf Trap Institute with various internal and external stakeholders.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or related field, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in the field of early care and education, child development, or early elementary education (Kindergarten, Grade One, Grade 2)
  • Experience providing and creating professional development content preferred
  • Experience with family-centered and community-based services desirable
  • Experience with the performing arts/arts education highly desirable

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs; including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively across teams in problem-solving, developing and implementing positive solutions to meet department/program goals
  • Excellent time management skills, with evidence of overseeing, prioritizing, and regularly executing multiple deadlines 
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts
  • Fluency in written and oral Spanish a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 60% of the time
  • Must be able to travel throughout Metro DC/MD/VA region with occasional travel in  Virginia and nationally 
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, printer, etc.)
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, bend and reach with arms
  • Lift/move up to 10 pounds infrequently
