Position Summary
The Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician Position is responsible for identifying the best methods for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens and performing the correct screening procedures for laboratory testing.
Essential Responsibilities
- Verify test requisitions by reading test orders.
- Verify patient by reading patient identification.
- Direct observe all urine collections.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients.
- Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
- Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, observing isolation procedures.
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Maintain quality results by following department procedures, testing schedule, and recording results in the quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Enhance laboratory department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude.
- Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Consistently adhere to business procedure guidelines.
- Must have reliable transportation.

Position Qualifications
- One (1) year experience in blood sticks/draws required.
- Urine collection experience is a plus.
- High school diploma.
- Ability to handle large, fluctuating volumes of work.
- Strong PC, keyboarding and typing skills.
- Strong customer focus.
