Position Summary

The Phlebotomist/Drug Screening Technician Position is responsible for identifying the best methods for retrieving specimens, preparing specimens and performing the correct screening procedures for laboratory testing.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Verify test requisitions by reading test orders.
  • Verify patient by reading patient identification.
  • Direct observe all urine collections.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
  • Maintain specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, observing isolation procedures.
  • Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
  • Maintain quality results by following department procedures, testing schedule, and recording results in the quality-control log while identifying and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Resolve unusual test orders by contacting the physician or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhance laboratory department by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Consistently adhere to business procedure guidelines.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Desire to be part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing company.

Position Qualifications

  • One (1) year experience in blood sticks/draws required.
  • Urine collection experience is a plus.
  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to handle large, fluctuating volumes of work.
  • Strong PC, keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
