The Construction Trades Estimator is responsible for analyzing construction documents, specifications, and other project documents to calculate the cost of a construction project by estimating the required labor, materials, equipment, and time needed to complete the work, ultimately creating detailed cost estimates for bidding purposes. The Construction Trades Estimator often collaborates closely with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate pricing and project feasibility.
\n- Establishes and maintains positive and effective relationships and communication with clients, consultants, designers, trade partners, governmental agencies, and the community.
- Attends planning and design coordination meetings as well as pre-bid meetings.
- Assists in the evaluation and constructability review of projects, including risk factors, with the project team.
- Produces progress estimates at key milestones, evaluates material and systems costs, and reviews document progress and coordination.
- Solicits bids and budgets from trade partners throughout the preconstruction phase and assists the project team with the final bid solicitation as required.
- Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other contract documents to recommend the overall project scope and requirements.
- Continually analyzes drawings and specifications for alternates and value engineering opportunities.
- Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, trade partners, and government requirements.
- Bachelor's degree specializing in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Must have experience in estimating general trades and carpentry scopes as well as some knowledge of metal building and structural steel erection.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required, with necessary industry experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the Commercial Construction Industry.
- Proficient with Project Management software.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Bluebeam and other estimating take off tools.
- Working knowledge of project management principles and strategies.
- Knowledge of construction principles, strategies, and the ability to identify critical paths as needed.
- Must possess superior plan reading skills and an understanding of all trades generally required for construction work and how they correlate.
- Must have superior skill level in the application of Excel spreadsheets and workbooks, as well as a complete grasp of formatting functions, graphing, tables, etc.
- Experienced with on-screen digital estimating programs and capable of quickly completing detailed and accurate take-offs.
- Must be able to conceptualize work sequencing and logistics from project plans.
