Wolverine Fuels LLC produces high-quality, clean-burning coal that is sold to markets throughout the world. Wolverine Fuels is a highly competitive coal company that serves the western US power generation industry and export markets. Based in Sandy, UT, the company employs over 850 staff and has an annual productive capacity of 8.5 million tons of thermal coal.
Wolverine Fuels has a diverse portfolio of operations in Utah that produces an aggregate of 6-8 million tons annually of high-BTU, low-sulfur bituminous coal. Wolverine Fuels' mines include some of the most productive and longest, continuously operating mines in the United States. Wolverine Fuels has two active longwall mining operations: Sufco Mine and Skyline Mine. Additionally, Wolverine Fuels is in the process of re-opening a previously sealed longwall operation, Fossil Rock Mine.
JOB SUMMARY
The Business Manager is the head finance person at the Sufco site and primarily focuses on tracking, reporting, and analyzing the financial performance and progress of Sufco coal mine. This role is an on-site position and is responsible for managing all financial aspects of the mine. Additionally, the Business Manager will partner with Operations to identify opportunities to increase profitability by analyzing efficiencies, managing costs, and providing recommendations for improvement. An essential part of the role is to ensure connectivity and alignment with Finance, area managers, project controls, Estimating, Payroll, Engineering, contracts, Procurement, Site General Management and Executives. In this context the jobholder will be expected to work with all these functions in both a support and influencing/challenging capacity. While the Company has many employees, we foster a collaborative environment and a flat reporting structure.
DUTIES
Prepare and manage site-level FP&A duties, including budgets, forecasts, and variance reporting
Manage and administer site-level accounting activities in accordance with GAAP, including month-end close, fixed asset management, internal controls, and audit support.
Track and manage costs to maximize profitability (includes project start-up and project ramp-up costs)
Provide on-site cross functional support to facilitate process improvements and ensure smooth operations
Grow and maintain healthy vendor relationships
General site-leadership duties as designated by the site General Manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field - master's degree preferred
Preferred professional certification, such as the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Project Management Professional (PMP)
Work Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in an accounting field
Prefer project related experience in mining or construction or heavy industry/manufacturing experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
Possess strong financial analysis skills, working in ERP systems and processing computer data, format and generate reports.
Well organized and coordinated - can set and stick to a "month in month out" calendar of activities to ensure that budgets and forecasts are submitted on time and actuals are available on time.
Excellent proficiency working with Microsoft platforms, especially Excel and accounting systems.
Able to demonstrate proficiency in budgeting, accounting principles, report writing, etc.
Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; prepare written reports and correspondence; effectively communicate verbally and in writing; work in a team environment with minimal supervision; work in excess of 40 hours a week as required; High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy; work both independently and collaboratively under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to positively influence stakeholders. Must have legal right and identity to work in the US.
