Job Overview:
WomanHaven A Center for Family Solutions (CFS) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Bilingual Domestic Violence Victim Advocate to provide comprehensive support to survivors of domestic violence. The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish, possess strong crisis intervention skills, and demonstrate a commitment to empowering victims. This role requires flexibility, as the advocate will be on call and must be willing to work overtime as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Crisis Intervention and Support:
- Provide immediate crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence.
- Conduct intake assessments to determine clients' needs and develop individualized service plans.
- Offer ongoing case management, including regular follow-up to ensure clients' safety and well-being.
Advocacy and Legal Support:
- Advocate on behalf of clients with law enforcement, court systems, and other agencies.
- Assist clients in navigating legal processes, such as obtaining restraining orders and custody arrangements.
- Accompany victims of domestic violence to court proceedings when appropriate.
Community Outreach and Education:
- Conduct outreach and education within the community to raise awareness about domestic violence services.
- Provide training to the community and conduct outreach as needed.
- Attend meetings, trainings, outreach events, and fundraising events.
- Establish positive relationships with agencies and work in collaboration to assist victims.
Support Services:
- Make appropriate referrals as necessary for immigration legal services beyond the scope of the program’s or one’s competencies, and other social service needs.
- Provide immigration relief information to victims of abuse.
- Assist other departments, such as housing and shelter, as needed.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Track data and generate reports.
On-Call and Overtime:
- Be available to respond to crisis calls and emergencies on a 24/7 on-call basis.
- Work overtime as required to meet the needs of clients and the organization.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence or in a related advocacy role.
Skills and Abilities:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
- Strong crisis intervention and trauma-informed care skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the legal system and experience with legal advocacy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and client management software.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Certifications:
- Certified Domestic Violence Advocate (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Trauma-Informed Care Certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Required to be on call and respond to emergencies outside of regular work hours.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed to support clients and organizational needs.
