What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Access Representative - Patient Access - PRN position at Womans Hospital?
The Patient Access Representative interviews patients for the purpose of initiating patient record. Obtains financial, demographic and medical data for patient billing and charting. Enters and maintains accuracy of patient status and service to ensure synchronicity with ancillary service systems who rely on accurate patient status to deliver service and ensure reimbursement. Other duties include, but not limited to, pre-registers/pre-admits scheduled patients, verifies eligibility and requests financial deposits as required by insurer and hospital policy, and assists in training new employees. Performs other duties assigned by department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CHAM or CHAA certification preferred.
- Two years of customer service experience.
- Two years of patient access or related experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Registers the patient at the appropriate location and within the required time frame, utilizing the mobile cart as per department policy and procedure. Provides adequate documentation for exceptions.
- Obtains complete insurance information and documentation, verifies existing information, and ensures pre-certification number obtained and entered if applicable. Enters correct insurance company mnemonics. Documents when/why information is missing.
- Obtains and witnesses proper signatures for required authorizations, releases, and consents as needed (includes documentation of reason for unsigned papers).
- Scans all designated material (back and front of cards, front of picture ID's and other material if applicable) as assigned by department.
- Utilizes Patient Estimate Software to collect copays/deductibles, if not documented and applicable. Collects payments, issues receipts, reconciles and deposits required information and payments in the drop safe near admitting. Notifies/documents any discrepancies or missing information.
- Cross-trains to work in other patient services areas and also is willing to work in other areas.
- Any other duties as assigned by Woman's Hospital.
