Our Sterile Processing Department has an essential role in the delivery of safe patient care. Our team makes sure that all medical/surgical supplies are cleaned, prepared, processed, stored, and issued for patient care and maintains a high standard for sterilization technique and product quality throughout our facility. Our team is currently looking for a Sterile Processing Department Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in sterile processing and/or operating room in an acute care setting is required.
  • CSPDT certification or equivalent must be obtained within 12 months of the start date.
  • Previous surgical technician experience and/or an associate degree in surgical technology is preferred.

Responsibilities of the Supervisor position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of Perioperative instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Maintains expert knowledge of sterilization, asepsis, and infection control practices related to surgical procedures. Operates complex machinery including washer/decontaminators, ultrasonic washers, surgical power equipment, etc.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory level of surgical instrumentation, equipment, and medical/surgical supplies to ensure department efficiency.
  • Processes customer complaints, non-conformances and internal errors and develops effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensures timely and effective reporting and corrective action of equipment malfunctions.
  • Monitors and routinely reports SPD key performance indicators and objectives to ensure continuous improvement and timely completion of tasks and projects. Assists Sterile Processing Manager in setting department goals and objectives.
  • Assists manager and director with carrying out department objectives, annual budget process, interviews, hires, schedules, technical training, etc.
  • Completes SPD staff performance via appraisals, goal setting, and resource management. Conducts employee improvement action plans, quality audits, and disciplinary actions as needed. Conducts in-services and promotes staff attendance at Hospital in-service programs.
  • Collaborates with nursing directors and managers and surgeons on daily work-flow issues and implements solutions where necessary.
  • Provides a leadership role for the continuous quality improvement initiatives and participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with health and safety rules and regulations and creates, revises, and enforces policies and standard operating procedures. Keeps abreast of procedures and recommendations as dictated by federal regulatory agencies, Joint Commission, AORN, and AAMI standards; adheres to standard precautions. Ensures staff meets sterilization standards and always remains compliant.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
