Women Against Abuse (WAA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency, is among the largest domestic violence agencies in the country and Philadelphia's leading domestic violence advocate and service provider. With over 170 staff, WAA serves (2 100 bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments), legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Assistant role carries out general / preventive Maintenance and Housekeeping responsibilities within our Residential Safe Havens and Transitional Housing Program. They will perform heavy janitorial duties, provide upkeep of our facilities and grounds, assist in any large annual cleaning assignments, and at times, they may assist with picking up and delivering any received in-kind donations. All responsibilities are expected to be delivered satisfactorily, with a customer service focus and are implemented according to our mission and vision and according to Agency standards.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish a variety of Preventative maintenance, janitorial and work order requests / tasks to keep the facilities, common areas, grounds and un / occupied rooms or apartments in excellent operating condition. These include but are not limited to :

• Plumbing (Snaking kitchen and bathroom drains, minor toilet repairs i.e. unclogging toilets / sinks, changing / replacing flappers or handles, installing washers, etc.)
• Painting (spackling, drywall patchwork, light painting)
• Electrical (installing / changing switch plates, light fixtures, florescent light bulbs etc.)
• Upkeep of grounds (Heavy trash removal / shoveling sidewalks and pathways, etc.)
• Janitorial (dusting, spot cleaning, deep cleaning / sanitizing community areas, office spaces, bathrooms, laundry spaces, and Children's Team space)
• Floor Care (stripping, waxing, buffing, dry / wet mopping of floors, shampooing and vacuuming rugs / carpets)
• Prepare client's bedroom and / or apartment units during turnover, including deep cleaning before new residents move in and after residents leave.
• During turnover or repairs, tasks may include general repairs, moving heavy furniture and appliances (dresser, bed, stove, fridge etc.), window and screen repairs, blind installation, painting / patchwork, repairs, replace or update door locks, and related tasks.

Available Shifts :

Part-Time (30 hours / week benefit eligible) : Monday - Friday 8 : 00am - 2 : 00pm w / on call responsibilities

Part-Time (35 hours / week benefit eligible) : Wednesday - Sunday 12 : 00pm - 7 : 00pm

Pay Rate : $18.65 an hour generous benefits package along with annual increases and Years of Service Recognition

Location : Germantown and Logan / Olney areas of Philadelphia, PA
