Community Liaison Reports to : Managing Director, Operations & Facilities FLSA Status : Non-exempt Supervisor : No Start Date : March 2025 Salary Range : $75,000-$95,000K Organizational Description : This mission of Women Building Up (WBU) is to advance gender, racial, and social justice by supporting women, girls, and gender expansive people who have been directly impacted by carceral systems to claim their power and become agents of transformative change in their communities and the world. WBU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by a committee of 50 women (cis, trans, nonbinary, and gender expansive), many of whom experienced incarceration, and all of whom are courageous leaders, activists, and passionate visionaries contributing to the growth of larger grassroots movements that advance justice for women. Position Summary : Working with the Operations & Facilities team, the Community Liaison advances the mission of Women Building Up (WBU) by staffing the front desk during business and select event hours, greeting visitors, and partners, providing information, and carrying out administrative activities. The Community Liaison will have deep experience with WBU’s core communities and represent WBU with core community members and the local Brooklyn neighborhood. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong verbal and written communication skills. This position is a full-time (35 hours), overtime-eligible position, and requires a flexible schedule with the ability to work some evenings and Saturdays to support programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : The Community Liaison is crucial for ensuring a safe, welcoming and functional environment for employees, visitors, and partners while regulating who enters and exits the building. Maintain and enforce access control procedures, ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed into the building; greet visitors, and partners by providing a warm welcome and share information about WBU, partners, and activities in the building. Manage the process of orienting visitors and partners to WBU’s community agreements and norms. Manage on-site community safety protocols by utilizing building security equipment and activating de-escalation and emergency life safety response protocols. Coordinate and communicate coverage of the front desk and schedule for custodial services with colleagues on the Operations & Facilities team. Be prepared to respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, or security threats. Manage front desk administrative activities, including logging mail / deliveries, documenting visitors, organizing co-working and event supplies, and ensuring updated outreach materials are available to members of the public. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of program goals with organizational priorities. Participate in regular staff meetings and shared learning opportunities, and contribute to organizational planning and development. Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Women Building Up’s mission and values. Physical Demands : Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds. Location : This position requires in-person work in our Brooklyn office 5 days per week. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : 5 years of experience in event and office management. 5 years of experience in outreach, hospitality, and / or security. Fire and Life Safety certification : if an applicant does not have certification when hired, WBU will expect the incumbent will attend training to receive certification within the first 90 days of employment. Strong background in group facilitation and / or de-escalation. Experience working on justice-impacted and carceral systems issues. Experience in social justice, communications, social work, project management, or a related field. Proficiency in Google Suite, especially Gmail, Google docs, and Google calendar. Enthusiastic about gaining new technical skills and exploring new tools and platforms. Key Competencies : Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse individuals, including when de-escalation is necessary. Strong administrative, organizational, and project management abilities. Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and seek solutions to challenges in a fast-paced environment. Compensation and Benefits : Salary Range : $75,000 - $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Benefits : Vacation : 20 days of vacation annually. Five days are available on start date, and five new days are issued every quarter, with renewal on the employee’s anniversary Sick time : 12 days / year (available upon hire) Personal days : 3 personal / mental health days (available upon hire) Holidays : 10 floating holidays of employee's choice Summer Fridays : 5 days / year Office Closure : Women Building Up intends to be closed between December 25 through January 1 unless there is a specific need to be open during such time.
