POSITION SUMMARY: Position is full-time, eligible for fringe benefits. Position performs a variety of responsibilities. Position provides support, advocacy and education to survivors of sexual violence, their families and the Kenosha community as a whole. Position supervises the Sexual Assault Program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, related field or equivalent preferred. Two years’ experience in crisis/social service agency preferred. Knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse is required. Knowledge about services available to victims in and around Kenosha County preferred.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: excellent communication and organizational skills; cultural competence and ability to interact with various publics; excellent interpersonal skills; must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgment and a high degree of responsibility, particularly as it relates to confidentiality. Reliable automobile with insurance and valid driver’s license required.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Understand and support the mission and purpose of Women’s Horizons, Inc.
2. Responsible for providing one on one supervision to assigned advocates, volunteers and interns (support, monitoring work, providing feedback, and securing development opportunities as needed).
3. Responsible for creating and maintaining active teamwork among assigned staff.
4. Responsible for the 24-hour SA and DV on-call calendar. Ensure that all shifts are covered and responded to within the approved timeframe (less than one hour for 24-hour emergency calls).
5. Follow up with advocates, the hospitals/CAC, and/or law enforcement when there are issues with the system for trauma-informed SA/DV services. Discuss new protocols to help improve the system.
6. Share in the coverage of the on-call calendar.
7. Follow up with all SA and DV on-call services and refer to the appropriate advocate for continued services.
8. Follow up on complaints from clients, staff and/or community partners regarding SA services.
9. Provide medical, legal, CAC, and law enforcement advocacy for sexual assault victims/survivors.
10. Attend law enforcement interviews, meetings with clients and the DA’s office and go to court hearings with clients for support and information as a service representative.
11. Provide SA advocacy/counseling services in the office, and on local college campuses, participate in meetings relating to campus services.
12. Provide crisis counseling, safety planning, referrals and follow up services to victims as needed. Attend court hearings as needed or desired by victims.
13. Co-facilitate/supervise support groups as needed.
14. Answer the hotline as needed.
15. Respond to crisis calls and requests for an advocate at hospitals, law enforcement centers, the Child Advocacy Center (CAC), colleges or in the office.
16. Advocate for clients within their community, such as with school counselors, principals, employers, psychiatrists, etc.
17. Participate in meetings, trainings and workshops as necessary to maintain updated knowledge. Report on training experiences to other staff.
18. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members, including law enforcement, District Attorney’s Office, forensic nurse examiners (SANE nurses) and the Child Advocacy Center and participate in meetings with Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Human Trafficking Task Force and the Organizational Review Committee (ORC).
19. Serve on other committees as assigned by Executive Director.
20. Responsible for sexual assault awareness activities held during April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
21. Work with other advocates to increase awareness of sexual assault services through trainings and speaking engagements tailored to fit the target audience needs.
22. Provide training presentations to police departments, SANE programs, new staff, new volunteers, etc.
23. Document services in client database and maintain confidential client files.
24. Ensure compliance with grant contracts and the achievement of grant outcomes.
25. Assist with grant applications and reporting.
26. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the agency and applicable laws.
27. Perform other duties as assigned.
