What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend Shelter Advocate position at Women & Children's Horizons?
Previous experience with a shelter, knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse, and previous experience engaging in trauma informed care desired.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is part time at 16 hours/week. This position performs a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to providing emotional support and info/referral services to shelter residents and their children, answering crisis calls, and managing community living challenges that arise. Population served are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, and their children.
WORK HOURS: We are seeking individuals to work in person at our shelter. Open shifts are Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm (second shift).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma and one year of experience in crisis/social service agency preferred. Some knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse. Bachelor of Science preferred.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and organizational skills; cultural sensitivity and ability to interact with various publics; excellent interpersonal skills; must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgment and a high degree of responsibility, particularly as it relates to confidentiality. Reliable automobile with insurance and valid driver’s license required.
