What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Advocate position at Women Helping Women?
TITLE: Housing Advocate
DEFINITION: Highly motivated and dependable professional to work with survivors of gender-based violence that are transient to secure safety, housing and advance economic self-sufficiency. Must be trauma sensitive and collaborative as well as aware of resources to support housing and employment. Case management and crisis intervention experience is required. Advocate must operate from a survivor-centered framework that aligns consistently within the mission and vision of the agency.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1 years of experience preferred. Associate’s degree or higher. Demonstrated experience in and passion for advocating and coordinating intervention supports for Individuals and/or Gender-based Violence Survivors who are homeless or in need of transitional housing or other housing assistance where emergency shelter services or other crisis intervention services are unavailable or insufficient. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to provide case management services and work efficiently with collaborative community partners and systems. Computer literacy (MS Office, databases, email, etc.) required.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Programming & Advocacy
• Identifies Landlords within Hamilton and Brown Counties that will provide housing options to Survivors in need
• Establishes working relationship with landlords willing to partner with WHW and Partners to secure safety and provide housing options to Survivors in need and their families
• Completes housing search with survivors to quickly and efficiently obtain housing and secure safety
• Effectively links survivors at program sites to partner, WHW and/or other community resources for wrap-around services that promote safety and self sufficiency
• Works to coordinate workforce development options for engaged Survivors to maintain housing and work in advancing economic self sufficiency
• Provides input on program development, implementation, evaluation, grant reporting and continuous improvement of program goals in addition to embracing and contributing to Agency strategic planning.
• Provides services and/or performs duties consistent with agency philosophy. All performance with respect to all individuals - both within and outside of the agency - is conducted in a manner that affirms the value of diversity and which is respectful of others regarding gender, class, race, ethnicity, ability, religion/spirituality, cultural identity, immigrant or refugee status, and sexual orientation.

• Maintains highly accurate records / reporting systems / statistics and submits on time (e.g., Documentation for WHW, for funders, for partner agencies).
• Accurately documents and submits mileage and expenses per agency policy.
• Accurately documents time and time off per agency policy.
• Maintains information in office in orderly fashion that is usable and accessible to colleagues.
• Maintains an appropriate level of involvement in non-essential activities (e.g. community involvement, agency functions).
