About the agency. Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) is a comprehensive domestic violence program annually serving approximately 7,500 individuals impacted by domestic violence & facilitating an intervention program to over 300 people who use abuse. We are advocates, grounded in fostering a community of safety, healing, and empowerment for anyone affected by domestic violence. Our mission is to strengthen our ability to meet the individual and evolving needs of those affected by domestic violence by investing in the growth of our people, deepening community engagement, and amplifying the voices of all survivors. All staff learn about and support the organization’s mission, vision, and values of Safety, Uplifting Others, Compassion, Courage, Equity, Survivor-Centered Advocacy, and Stewardship (SUCCESS). In addition, the principles of Sanctuary (a model for providing trauma-informed care) and continuous improvement infuse all aspects of the organization.

About the role. As an Education Facilitator, you will provide evidence-based violence prevention curricula in high school environments, working creatively and building relationships with students and school personnel. The role will disseminate information on teen dating and domestic violence and will lead psycho-educational groups in schools. The Education Facilitator will assist in the evaluation of school programs and will implement training programs for school personnel and other professionals about the effects of teen dating and domestic violence. The role is co-located between WC&S offices and onsite/virtual school settings (based on school operations).

This role provides you with the opportunity to showcase your presentation, group facilitation, and evaluation skills, and the ability to contribute to the organization’s mission in a variety of ways. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal communication abilities and a minimum of one year of experience working in a human services or educational field. If you are comfortable facilitating trainings and presentations, and are passionate about working with school-aged youth and other populations experiencing dating/intimate partner violence, we are eager to hear from you. Here's what you will do:

  • Conduct evidence-based violence prevention curricula to middle and high school students, as well as youth working with MOU partners, by developing and disseminating information on teen dating/domestic violence through materials, trainings, and presentations
  • Assist in the evaluation of school programming and facilitates psychoeducational groups as needed
  • Implement training programs for school personnel, parent organizations, and other professionals about the effects of teen dating/domestic violence on youth
  • Lead school-wide safety intervention programming, recruitment, and engagement of student leaders, and facilitate school-wide conversations about campus safety improvements
  • Serve as subject matter expert to students and schools regarding teen dating/domestic violence and healthy relationships
  • Participate in community tabling events as assigned
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of clients, residents, and location; follows safety protocols
  • This position requires being available during regular school hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (social work/social sciences or education fields preferred, but other fields of study will be considered)
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in human service or educational fields preferred
  • Experience and ease leading and facilitating trainings and presentations, both virtually and in-person
  • Effective verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A demonstration of the understanding of abusive family dynamics, including intimate partner violence, cycle of abuse, power and control dynamics, cultural diversity issues and child abuse and neglect
  • Ability to establish healthy boundaries, trust, respect, and rapport with others
  • Ability to understand and adhere to strict confidentiality and safety procedures
  • Strong command of general technology, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite is required; familiarity and understanding of information technology, including Salesforce and Teams strongly preferred
  • Desire to work in an organization committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of its values
  • Act 33/34 and FBI Clearances required

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and ascend/descend stairs (if elevator not an option)
  • Ability to move, carry, and/or lift items/packages up to 25 lbs. at times, including transporting necessary equipment and materials (e.g., laptop, phone, documents, etc.)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, with breaks as needed
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and technology (e.g., computer, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.)
  • Ability to access and physically navigate various departments and organizational facilities, as well as relevant offsite locations (if applicable)
