Women’s Help Center/Community Help Center Peer Support Services
We are looking for a Peer Support and Shelter Services Director to lead our new emergency shelter pilot initiative. This pilot is an innovative approach to emergency shelter for individuals with behavioral health issues or diagnosis who are experiencing homelessness. The pilot will utilize Certified Peer Specialists to provide services and shelter to peers in behavioral health recovery to help them regain housing independence. This exciting opportunity will involve developing programming, processes, and trainings, along with community outreach, and making a difference in the lives of those in need. Position Summary: The Peer Support and Shelter Services Director (Director) will provide direct leadership and oversight of the Peer Support and Shelter Services program, assistance with organizational operations, as well as ensure service quality, compliance, and coordination. The Director will ensure compliance with service requirements set forth by the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Magellan Healthcare.
- Provides direct oversight of the Peer Support and Shelter Services Supervisor to ensure effective, responsive, and compliant operations of the Adult Peer Led Emergency Shelter program.
- Conducts weekly one-on-one supervision with Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) staff and participates in team meetings.
- Ensures program compliance and performs continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities including performing chart audits on a regular basis, ensuring corrective actions are completed, identifying areas for individual and program improvement, and working with the CQI team to review findings and outcomes; provides regular updates to senior leadership and submits reports regularly.
- Coordinates and oversees volunteer and intern activities and projects.
- Engages with providers in the community to represent the agency and increase awareness of agency services; attends identified community meetings and events to provide agency representation.
- Works with senior leadership to develop financial reports and makes service and programming recommendations to senior leadership.
- Conducts regular performance evaluations and goal setting for Peer Support and Shelter Services staff; ensures staff adhere to agency and program policies; identifies and addresses performance concerns with staff and consults with senior leadership on corrective actions.
- Participates in the hiring, onboarding, and training processes for program staff.
- Develops and delivers training to program and agency staff.
- Provides peer-based support services (if CPS certified) to individuals contemplating or actively seeking help with behavioral health recovery and emergency shelter.
- Ensures the program/agency maintains Peer Support Services licensure.
- Performs other duties as assigned by senior leadership.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
- Must meet the qualifications of a Mental Health Professional detailed in the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Peer Support Services bulletin, which specifies the Director must be a person trained in a generally recognized clinical discipline including, but not limited to: psychiatry, social work, psychology, nursing, or rehabilitation or activity therapies who has a graduate degree and mental health clinical experience.
- Complete the Certified Peer Specialist Supervisory training curriculum within six (6) months of hire.
- For individuals who are self-identified as living with a mental health diagnosis and who has reached a point in their recovery pathway where they can positively support others in similar situations, they will complete an Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services approved Peer Services certification training; obtain and maintain the certification as a CPS through the Pennsylvania Certification Board
- Within the first month of employment, complete the Pennsylvania Mandated Reporter training
- Lived or professional experience in homeless services a plus
