Description : POSITION SUMMARY :
Working in Direct Care offers diverse professional opportunities and growth while supporting women experiencing poverty and homelessness. You will help to coordinate services for women in our day shelter community, which offers free access to Basic Care Services, Toiletries, Meals, Health Care, Advocacy and a Resource Center. Direct Care staff actively work with volunteers and other staff to engage guests and coordinate services according to our integrated model of care, helping vulnerable women gain access to housing, mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and other critical services. You will provide healing, hope and dignity to more than 225 women a day.

Base Pay Rate : $26.88 / hr
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Schedule is 5 days; Tuesday-Saturday
Daily Operations :
- Be a first point of contact for our guests when they enter the shelter. This will include working 5 days on the shelter floor meeting the needs of our guests. May also include working in the Resource Center, Development, Admin, outreach, or other tasks and meetings as needed.
- Be engaged, energetic, compassionate and promote a safe and welcoming community.
- Serve as a liaison to advocacy, medical and other services.
- Establish supportive / trusting relationships with guests.
- Respond to guests’ emergency needs for help with trauma, clothing, food and other necessities.
- Coordinate showers, laundry, and access to other services.
- Provide immediate crisis de-escalation intervention.
- Implement shelter policies and procedures through guest education.
- Participate in meetings, professional development training and orientation of new staff and volunteers.
- Assist with toiletry closet, inventory.
- Assist with triaging the needs of guests and connecting them with needed resources.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Shelter Manager.

To be qualified for this position, an individual must meet the following standards and / or be able to perform the following essential functions and activities.
Physical activities include : Be able without difficulty to stand and or walk for 7 hours of an 8-hour shift. Bending, stretching and lifting 30 pounds. Take wet laundry from washing machine to dryer (over shoulder height). Fold bed linens and towels, set up and take down large dining tables. Clean and maintain a multiple -stall bathroom, replenish supplies, clean and remove trash. Assist with keeping dining room clean and safe during operating hours.
Sensory and Communicative activities include : Seeing, hearing, feeling and speaking.
An individual in this position will be exposed to the following environmental conditions : high level of noise, arguments, demands and commotion in community dining room.
