- Instructional Development: Plans, supervises and implements programs for the specific age group. Prepares lesson plans along guidelines of the Center’s objectives and philosophy and state early childhood standards for each age group. Selects resource materials and designs materials for special needs. Provides ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children. All staff are responsible for training and guiding new staff members. It is a requirement that all staff take the initiative to provide all new staff members with the necessary classroom and facility resources to be successful at Wonder Academy.
Teaching Performance: Provides quality instruction and maintains an effective learning environment. Follow and implement Wonder Academy curriculum values. Follows guidelines of The National Association for the Education of Young Children, as well as, ITERS and ECERS and state standards. Responsible for the arrangement, appearance and décor in the classroom. Consideration of classroom arrangement is given considering the developmental levels of all children. Anecdotal records are to be written daily on children and summarized to be used in parent-teacher conferences.
Student/Family Relationships: Provides guidance for children in need or in conflict either emotionally or academically. Confers with parents on a regular basis or in time of special need. Conducts formal parent conferences twice yearly on children’s school adjustment, classroom behavior, learning styles, developmental levels and skills. Spends time daily interacting with children at their level.
Professional Development: Keeps abreast of newest theories and practices of child development. Continues required training, education, conferences, and workshops to enhance professional growth. Has attained or is committed to attaining an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Personal Development: Ability to communicate effectively through Standard English, both written and verbal. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, students, Management Team, owners, and staff. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others. Ability to maintain confidentiality, use discretion, and exercise sound judgment in performing all duties.
Instructional Management: Maintains children’s progress and learning through the use of the developmental check sheet. Works within the school’s budget. Performs daily health checks on children. Supervises and provides guidance to Teacher Assistants. Has a complete knowledge of Wonder Academy guidelines, policies, procedures, and curriculum. Classroom is to be labeled. Materials are to be gathered and prepared for each day.
Classroom Management: Maintain a safe-clean classroom environment. Care of materials and furniture are shown and taught to children. The following tasks must be completed everyday; 1)sweep then mop after snacks and lunch with Swiffer mop and spray cleaner, 2)mop the bathroom floor during nap daily, 3)wash the arms, seats, and bottoms of chairs, 4)clean the tops, sides, and under edges of tables, 5)sanitizing toys throughout the day, 6)cleaning the steps to the sink, 7)wiping down trash cans, water fountains, door handles, light switches, and adult sink. 8) On designated days all eating tables and chairs must be moved to the carpet so the floors can be buffed.
Job responsibilities could also include working within the kitchen and performing general housekeeping duties throughout the center. You may also be called to work in any age group at any time. Also, any teacher with a CDL license may be used at any time to drive a bus.
