Sterile Processing Technician - Full Time
The sterile processing and/or endoscopy technician provide personal care and professional excellence by assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Central Sterile cost center. Technician ensures that surgical instruments, instrument sets and both rigid and flexible endoscopes are prepared for use in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based clinical and regulatory guidelines.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, supply and equipment distribution in accordance with evidence-based clinical and regulatory guidelines as well as policies and procedures in the perioperative department. 2. Inspects and assembles instruments and sets in compliance with manufacturer’s instructions and established guidelines 3. Performs and documents required sterility assurance measures according to policy and procedures 4. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of unit equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and unit policy 5. Collects data and runs reports as directed by department leadership 6. As needed, inventories and assists with ordering supplies in support of patient care and administrative operations 7. May perform decontamination, disinfection and inspects flexible endoscopes according to established policies and procedures 8. Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • High school diploma or equivalent required • Sterile Processing certification and obtained within 18 months of hire required • Endoscopy Reprocessing certification within 18 months of hire date, preferred • Basic computer use competency (keyboarding, order/data entry and retrieval, word processing) required • Demonstration of effective problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills • Demonstrate the ability to manage time effectively and adapt to changes in the workload • Demonstrate a positive attitude and be a respectful team player • Excellent written and verbal communication • Demonstrates positive customer service • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA regulations • BLS certified – if not current, can obtain through Wood County Hospital WORK SCHEDULE: • Variable Hours: • Typical start-time between 0630-0900 • Typical end-time between 1500-1730 • Rotated shifts • On-Call Rotation: • Rotation of call Monday through Friday from 1730-2030 • Weekend call rotated Saturday through Sunday from 0800-1600 • Holiday call rotation from 0800-1600 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
