What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oral Surgery Assistant position at Wood & Myers Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons?
Surgical Assistant
- Coordinates medical care for patients anticipated surgery or coordinates care with other offices. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Obtains risk stratification, INR, medication, and referral information
- Relays all necessary information to appropriate offices
- Schedules patients for appropriate surgical procedures in our office or with another office. * Coordinates correspondence with other offices through patient web or letters. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Letters,
- Treatment tracker,
- Downloading x-rays,
- CT cuts and scans, etc. * Appropriately seats patients depending on their treatment and surgery schedule.
- Displays good patient rapport and friendliness toward patient.
- Accomplishes appropriate paperwork, x-rays/CT scans, confirmation of procedure with referral, informed consent, documentation, etc.
- Coordinates financial information for patients’ upcoming appointments including, but not limited to:
- Provides surgical fees for anticipated procedures
- Relays insurance information concerning deductible, maximum, and co-payment to the patient
- Coordinates pre-authorization/pre-determination with our insurance department in a time-appropriate manner * Properly takes X-rays: Panorex, CT scans, TMJ, PA, Face, Ceph, Occlusal, Towns
- Properly displays x-ray/CT scan, referral and patient web in procedure rooms
- Confirms treatment plan with patient before signing consent form, any discrepancies inform doctor or team leader
- Properly attaches monitors and patient safety straps during procedures and in recovery.
- Documents chart, x-rays/CT scans, proper equipment, consulting physician’s offices, makes appointments, procedures, etc.
- Takes Photographs –Digital cameras
- Works up Orthognathic and TMJ patients-CT scans, impressions, scanning, paper work, etc.
- For post-op appointments: performs suture removal, dry socket identification and treatment, infection identification and treatment, etc.
- Participates in opening, stocking, and cleaning rooms; changing and cleaning suctions; Biohazard trash management; closing rooms.
Surgical procedures:
Includes complete setting of trays, having proper equipment and materials for the case, and being skilled in surgically assisting the following procedures:
- Extraction of impacted wisdom teeth.
- Simple extractions
- Surgical extractions
- Exposure and bonding of unerupted teeth
- Pediatric extractions
- Implant – placement, exposure, removal, scanning, tracking and inventory
- Apicoectomy
- Incision and drainage – Culture handling
- Biopsy- surgical or laser
- Crown lengthening
- Fractures
- Gingival grafting
- Frenectomy (lingual and maxillary)
- Oral-antrum closure
- Tori removal
- Alveoplasty
- Multiple extractions with denture placement
- Splint placement
- Removal of arch bars
- Sinus lift
- Bone graft
- Infuse
- Platelet rich plasma-prep and dispensing
- Caldwell Luc
- Hospital Assisting
- Impressions
- Inserting prosthesis
- Sterile technique of equipment and instruments
- Supply inventory
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
