Wood Rodgers, a leading engineering consulting firm, is seeking a surveyor with an emphasis in remote sensing and aerial mapping to join our dynamic Survey and Mapping Department. We are looking for someone with expertise in remote sensing, photogrammetry, and aerial mapping, who enjoys working on a variety of projects for public and private clients.
This is a staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.
A day in the life as a Wood Rodgers' Project Surveyor
- Manage remote sensing and aerial mapping projects, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely completion.
- Collaborate with drone pilots, survey crews, and office staff to collect and process aerial imagery, lidar, and other remote sensing data.
- Process and analyze remote sensing datasets using software such as Trimble Business Center, Pix4D, Global Mapper, or similar platforms.
- Generate detailed topographic maps, orthophotos, and 3D surface models from lidar and aerial imagery.
- Prepare and review mapping deliverables, including ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, digital terrain models (DTMs), and geospatial data products.
- Interpret data from various sensors and integrate them into GIS and CAD platforms, such as ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Marketing and business development with existing and prospective clients, including attending trade shows and industry events.
- Writing proposals and developing budgets with scopes of work.
- Conduct quality control and validation of geospatial data to ensure precision and compliance with project requirements.
- Research and stay updated on emerging technologies in remote sensing and geospatial mapping.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Geography, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in remote sensing, photogrammetry, or aerial mapping projects.
- Experience with LiDAR data processing, orthophoto generation, and GIS integration.
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, ESRI ArcGIS, and photogrammetric tools like Pix4D or Agisoft Metashape.
- Knowledge of survey and mapping principles, including boundary and legal concepts.
- Experience with UAV/drone operations and data collection is a must.
- Experience with crewed aircraft, large format sensor data collection is a plus.
- Strong project management skills, including preparing proposals, budgets, and scopes of work.
- Professional license/certifications, such as PLS, ASPRS or FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, are preferred.

Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location. Base pay is just one part of the comprehensive compensation package offered by Wood Rodgers.
