Wood is recruiting for an Intern in Technical Software Development to join its Intelligent Assets Solutions division business focusing on develops software which is used for offline engineering and design, operator training, and real-time production monitoring and optimization of energy production facilities and operations. Our portfolio of software offers a variety of functionalities that assist clients in operating or designing complex production facilities, assists in the design of facilities, and helps our clients run their operations sustainably. Our team focuses on addressing the complex operational, planning and optimization problems and thus candidates for this position will be responsible for playing a major role in the development and deployment our applications. Participation would be expected in the development of various aspects of the software, writing and reviewing design specifications, and assisting with problems or issues in our IT estate. This opportunity is hybrid with approximately once per week in the office at Wood’s Park Row location in Houston, TX.
The Role
The Intern in Technical Software Development role involves developing and maintaining software using C#, ASP.NET Core, TypeScript, React, Docker, and Python from May to August, working in a hybrid environment. Candidates should be pursuing or starting a computer science-related degree and have strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a willingness to learn. This position averages 20-40 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

- Design, develop, and maintain software applications using numerous technologies such as C#, ASP.NET Core, TypeScript and React, Docker, and Python. This will include desktop, web-based, and headless applications.
- Assist with the deployment of these solutions for both internal and external customers.
- Collaborate with team members and key stakeholders to analyze requirements and design/develop solutions that meet business needs.
- Identify and troubleshoot software defects and issues.

Expected
- Beginning or continuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Need to have at least a strong curiosity if not passion for software/computing
- General programming understanding and willingness to learn the languages used at Wood including C#, Typescript with React, and Python
- Basic understanding or willingness to learn concepts important to the Energy sector
- Basic understanding of source control strategies esp. Git
- Knows or is willing to learn/apply modern strategies around Docker, VMs, cloud-based resources and tooling esp. Azure, build pipelines, etc.
- Self-motivated and independent learner
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and can utilize the Microsoft 365 suite
- Ability to work independently and in a hybrid environment
