Responsibilities
- The scaffold journeyman builds, positions, and dismantles scaffold structures from wood, steel frames and steel poles according to sketches, blueprints, manufactures instructions and or company standards.
- Will work with civil crew when not performing scaffold duties.
- A valid driver’s license is required to operate any motorized vehicle on the client's property.
- Examines, selects and gathers materials and tools
- Examines blueprints and specifications to determine dimensions of structure
- Inspect base surface for obstructions
- Loads, transports and unloads material
- Measures boards, timbers, or plywood, using square, measuring tape, and ruler, and marks cutting lines on materials using pencil and scriber
- Saws boards and plywood panels to required sizes
- Uses carpentry hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, drill motors and pry bars
- Assembles scaffold containing handrails, mid rails, braces, planks and toe boards
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills
- Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees
- Be motivated and work safely and productively
- Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
- Additional duties as required.
- 2-3 years of Journeyman experience in craft
- The employee must be able to use standard and/or metric rule to measure
- Demonstrate ability to use whole numbers, fractions and decimals to add, subtract, multiply and divide and be able to accurately follow instructions
- Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Ability to calculate the amount of material needed to erect a specific scaffold from the instructions given
- Ability to figure materials for several different designs of scaffold
- Ability to read measuring tapes, and to understand the use of levels
- Ability to read and understand methods and procedures that are present on drawings, layout work, and just specification
- Work in a safe and productive manner
- Be able to work at heights without fear
