Job Summary
The Operator III position is responsible for operating assigned machines to produce the needed materials in a manner that promotes quality, timely production, and safety. This position is expected to know how to run all machines in a production line.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Providing training on proper machine operation to other employees
- Performing necessary cleaning, general maintenance, and minor troubleshooting to machinery
- Reading and interpreting drawings in AutoCAD and other formats
- Tallying use of material and correctly inputting this data into the computer system
- Safely operating a forklift to organize area and pick and deliver stock as needed. Performing necessary cleaning, general maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting of forklift as needed.
- Daily set-up, routine use, and adjustments to machines according to the Established Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
- Knowing and understanding the different profiles, species, and wood dimensions to successfully run to critical specifications
- Handling and maneuvering products in ways that are safe and prevent damage
- Monitoring supply levels and putting material into production
- Closely inspecting material and removing material that does not meet specified quality standards
- Following production schedule and producing material to the required specifications
- Read and understand the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and standard operating procedures related to and posted near the area
- Complete safety orientation training, observe all safety policies and procedures, including use of required protective equipment (PPE)
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Two years of previous work experience in manufacturing
- Ability to operate all machines in a production line
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work well and collaborate in a team environment
- Attention to detail
- Know species, profiles, and components of products
- Ability to perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- Ability to use basic measurement tools such as a caliper and tape measure
- Basic computer skills specifically with Microsoft office
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and hear or talk
- Regular bending, stooping, stretching, twisting, turning, and walking
- Frequently required to stand for long periods
- Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception
