The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for directly managing the Driver Supervisors company-wide to ensure regulatory compliance and fleet performance. While ensuring drivers follow policies and procedures to maintain the standard level of premier service set forth by the business units. Duties include : - ensuring the unique driver needs of the diverse business units are met, also ensuring DOT regulatory compliance. This position will also be a back-up resource for the Driver Supervisors, providing day-to-day driver dispatching, communication and resolving fleet issues.
This position is actively involved in day-to-day transportation operations, working closely with the Fleet Manager and Safety Manager in developing, reviewing, implementing, and communicating driver procedures and fleet policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a company-wide pipeline of qualified driver candidates by collaborating with H.R. to develop driver-specific recruiting strategies
- In collaboration with H.R., provide analysis on driver pay trends such as rates and models
- Responsible for collaborating with regional Driver Supervisors to understand any unique driver requirements and work with HR to get accurate posting so HR can post driver “unique” jobs on websites
- Review Driver Supervisor candidate resumes and conduct interviews when filling or backfilling Driver Supervisor positions
- Critique driver-specific, DOT-mandated compliance paperwork and DOT required onboarding procedures
- Define, develop, and enforce driver and or fleet policies
- Define, develop and report driver metrics that guide and hold drivers accountable to Woodgrain Transportations expectations and continuous improvement
- Follow up with driver supervisors to ensure they are managing the driver compliance notifications in the Foley database to maintain DQ file compliance with DOT FMCSA rules and regulations
- Manage relationships and negotiate contracts with driver staffing agencies
- Ensure Driver Supervisors implement all private fleet transportation policies to ensure customer service levels as well as DOT FMCSA government regulations are met
- Responsible for managing the activities and duties of location Driver Supervisors; and ensuring the Driver Supervisors are effectively managing the activities of all private fleet drivers
- Provide direction and assist Driver Supervisors in supporting the driver, on-board technology systems (E-logs, POD software), and day-to-day issues
- Provide direction, assist and be available as a backup resource for the Lead Drivers for day-to-day driver dispatching and communications
- Ensure Driver Supervisor submit driver weekly payroll templates / WorkForce hours
- Maintain relationships and collaborate with departmental leadership to understand and meet required driver service levels (On-time arrival, Proof of Delivery Capture, Store assist etc.)
- Interface with Transportation Planners to decrease routing inefficiencies
- Perform all managerial duties for the Driver Supervisors – performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, time off approval. etc.
- Other tasks and duties may be assigned by the Corporate Transportation Manager
