RESPONSIBLE AND

REQUIREMENTS:
· Graduation from accredited high school
· Demonstrates computer skills
· Knowledge of medical practice and terminology
· Must be well organized and detail oriented
· Participates in ongoing continuing education as related to position
· Knowledge of medical billing and collection practices
· At least 2 years medical billing experience
· Skill in answering telephone in pleasant and helpful manner
· Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
· Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
· Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity and hearing to normal range
· Paper and computer oriented position
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Clean environment in medical practice setting
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Enters patient demographic and insurance information correctly
2. Submitting and printing clean insurance claims
3. Attaching any necessary referrals and/or reports to claim forms
4. Mailing patient statements when requested
5. Enters insurance and patient payments correctly and timely
6. Working with the insurance companies, healthcare provider and patient to get a claim processed and paid
7. Reviewing and appealing unpaid and denied claims
8. Verifying patients’ insurance coverage
9. Answering billing questions from patients, insurances and non-billing staff
10. Handling collections on unpaid accounts
11. Obtaining any necessary referrals or authorizations that are required
POSTING PAYMENTS:
1. Enters all payments and adjustments into the system and transfers balance due to either next insurance carrier or to patient
2. Post credits appropriately
3. Processes patient and insurance refunds when necessary
SECONDARY INSURANCE CLAIM FILING:
1. Directs computer to print claim forms for secondary insurance
2. Mails claims with appropriate information attached
DAILY DUTIES:
1. Posting charges, payments and adjustments
2. Generating claim forms
3. Accounts receivable follow up (phone calls and/or online/written requests for review).
4. Collection of balances due
5. Return mail investigations
6. Receives calls from patients regarding their account status
MONTHLY DUTIES:
Collections:
1. Sending of final notices to accounts over 90 days
2. Gathering possible collection agency accounts for the billing manager to review
3. Sending approved accounts to collection agency with appropriate information (patient demographics, insurance information, payment history, and necessary comments)
ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY:
1. Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time.
2. Always provides proper notification and advance notice of planned absences
1. Reports to work and ready to work at their starting time
2. Returns from lunch on time
OTHER:
1. Maintains a well-groomed, appropriate appearance.

Pay: $19.50 - $20.50 per hour
