Position:Media Center Paraprofessional
Location:Woodland Elementary School
Schedule:2025-2026 School Year
Salary:Per Contract
To Start:August 25, 2025 (plus two mentoring days prior to start date, TBD)
Qualifications:
●Experience in working in a school library/media center setting.
●Strong knowledge of children’s literature
●Knowledge of basic library/media center operations.
●Strong classroom management skills .
●Must possess excellent computer skills.
●College degree preferred.
●Multi-lingual preferred.
Responsibilities:
●Instruct students in the location, use and choice of printed materials that are appropriate for their reading and interest levels.
●Teach responsible behavior in the care, use and return of books.
●Choose grade level, culturally diverse books to read to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Select materials and activities that meet curriculum needs, promote enjoyment of reading, and align with 3-5 standards. Each class visits once every other week.
●Provide structure, routine, and expectations for students to provide a safe and pleasant environment conducive to reading and learning.
●Supervise students in the Media Center setting,
●Purchase, maintain and eliminate books for the school library using only approved vendors for purchasing.
●Establish and implement efficient procedures to catalog all materials for the Media Center, using Follett Destiny and/or other software programs. Maintain a complete and accurate inventory of all materials.
●Manage the Media Center Budget with consideration for current and future resource needs. Maintain records, files, statistics and reports as needed.
●Oversees the structure and display of the Media Center, arranging and changing displays, shelving books in an appealing and meaningful way and ensuring books are neat, organized and accounted for.
●Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, classroom and specialty teachers, support staff, administration and community members.
●Lead efforts in community outreach and schoolwide events including, but not limited to the Memorial Day Program, Scholastic Book Fair, Giving Tree, Cards for Seniors, etc.
●Supervisory duties such as lunch/recess duty and/or arrival and dismissal duty.
●Perform other duties as directed by the Principal or an Assistant Principal.
