Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director, the Sports Coordinator plans, develops, organizes and coordinates year-round community athletic programs for youth and adult. The Sports Coordinator performs a variety of administrative work in keeping official records. Assists in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Organizes youth sports programs and special events, volunteers, teams, schedules, facilities, officials
2. Organizes adult sports programs and special events, schedules, facilities, officials
3. Coordinate sport programs with Site Supervisor schedule
4. Recruits volunteer coaches, officials and sponsors
5. Conducts coach and officials training programs
6. Develops league rules and schedules
7. Responsible for tracking and managing program budget recovery
8. Assists in the procurement of athletic supplies
9. Prepares and monitors work orders
10. Acts as custodian of athletic documents and records. Establishes and maintains filing systems, control records and indexes using independent judgment
11. Maintains inventories of sports equipment
12. Processes program and sport registrations
13. Composes, types, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as a content, accuracy, and completeness
14. Performs routine clerical and administrative work in answering phones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering, data processing, and bookkeeping
15. Responds to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons
16. Operates listed office machines as required
17. Inputs data to standard office and department forms; makes simple postings to accounts; compiles data for various reports
18. Assists public with scheduling and use of department facilities
19. Duplicates and distributes material
20. Superior communication skills
Additional Responsibilities
1. Serves as cashier including receipting of payments and various other payments, and posting monies to appropriate accounts
2. Issues routine non-technical permits for park use
3. Operates a vehicle to run errands
4. Coordinates and schedules facilities
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, coaches, community leaders and the general publie
6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
(A) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting and bookkeeping, and
(B) two (2) years of recreation experience including youth and adult sports; or
(C) an equivalent combination of related education and experience
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(A) Working knowledge of recreation philosophy and programs
(B) Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; some knowledge of accounting principles and practices
(C) Superior communication and customer service skills
(D) Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
(E) Ability to perform cashier duties
(F) First Aid and CPR certification
