What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Driver position at Woodland Pond Inc?
Position Summary
The Lead Driver is responsible for training new drivers. This position is responsible for ensuring all driving shifts are covered each week while also monitoring each vehicle for any maintenance needs within the fleet. The Lead Driver, like all drivers, will transport residents of Woodland Pond to medical appointments, errands, special outings, and other destinations as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*CF indicates Critical Function)
- Prepares and maintains the weekly schedule to ensure each driving shift is covered (*CF)
- Trains and mentors all new drivers regarding the driving policy and procedures (*CF)
- Inspects all vehicles daily to ensure the safety and readiness for operation (*CF)
- Receives daily transportation schedule from the Concierge; communicates with the Concierge throughout the day regarding pick up/drop off times (*CF)
- Takes a roll call each time residents board the bus (*CF)
- Assists residents with packages and WP grocery carts as needed
- Provides supervision as residents enter and exit the bus (*CF)
- Operates wheelchair lift to assist residents on/off the bus (*CF)
- Uses hands free devices if using the phone while driving
- Cleans the inside and outside of the bus as needed and as requested by supervisor
- Removes all trash from the inside of the bus and sweeps the inside of the bus as needed
- Alerts supervisor when oil change, inspection, registration, or other required maintenance is needed
- Contacts supervisor immediately if an accident involving the bus occurs
- Reports resident illness or behavior changes to supervisor
- Departs Woodland Pond in a timely manner; if a resident does not board on time the rest of the group should not have to wait
- Follows all traffic laws including posted speed limits and utilizing safety belts
- Completes idle time tasks as assigned
- Completes all required training and in-services
- All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma, or HSE with two years of similar experience
- Valid NYS Class D Drivers License, with a clean driving record and proof of valid personal liability auto insurance required
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to function within a Windows based computer program
- Ability to multitask
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate skills for communicating by telephone and in person with individuals of all ages, especially the geriatric population
