Days/Hrs: 7 hours per day, 203 days per year (180 school days 9 professional development days, 14 position specific days)

Job Description - The School Counselor help students prepare for academic achievement, ensure career readiness and develop personal or social competencies through a comprehensive, preventive and developmental counseling program. The goal is to ensure that students will become productive and well-adjusted adults.
Qualifications:
- Valid ESA in School Counseling or School Social Work
- Two years of experience preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
- Ability to relate well to administrators, teachers, parents, and students
- Ability to convey humor and positive energy with team members, students and parents
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Preference in screening of applications will be given to bilingual candidates, especially Spanish
- Experience with management of 504 plans, AVID, and MTSS systems preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives
- Implement Comprehensive School Counseling Program as defined by the State of Washington and Woodland Public Schools
- Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services
- Comfortable with public speaking to facilitate parent/caregiver nights, staff professional development, student groups and activities
- Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
- Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians and staff
- Connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies
- Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staff
- Implement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate
- Conduct career and educational planning activities
- Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district
- Submit required reports promptly and accurately
- Schedule students in appropriate courses
- Consult with students, parents and staff to assist students with academic/career planning
- Meet individually with every student in assigned grade band to develop a career plan
- Assist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applications
- Schedule and coordinate AP, ACT, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, etc.
- Be the liaison for our Running Start program and help ensure proper student enrollment
- Work with our community partners for our local scholarship program
- Maintain counseleing website
- Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or District Administrator
