Job Summary:
Woodland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Band Director to lead instrumental music programs at Woodland Middle School and Woodland High School. This position involves directing band classes, preparing students for performances, and fostering a love of music across multiple grade levels. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring educator who builds strong relationships with students, collaborates with colleagues, and actively engages with the school and community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and instruct middle and high school band classes, ensuring a high-quality music education experience.
- Plan and conduct concerts, pep band performances, and participate in community and school events as needed.
- Develop a comprehensive music curriculum that meets students’ individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Provide engaging, differentiated instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels.
- Set and maintain high standards for student behavior and classroom expectations to foster a positive and productive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians through conferences, emails, phone calls, and newsletters.
- Assess and monitor student progress, maintaining accurate records and providing timely feedback.
- Develop and implement effective lesson plans, ensuring substitute plans are available when needed.
- Collaborate with other music educators, school staff, and administrators to enhance the overall music program.
- Support extracurricular music activities such as marching band, jazz band, or other ensembles, depending on student interest and program needs.
- Encourage student participation in regional and state music competitions, honor bands, and festivals.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Hold a valid Washington State teaching certificate with the appropriate Music endorsement.
- Demonstrated success in teaching instrumental music at the middle or high school level.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate students of varying skill levels.
- Experience with concert band, jazz band, marching band, or other instrumental ensembles is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in technology to support instruction, communication, and student assessment.
- Preferred: Bilingual candidates and additional endorsements in other subject areas.
