Supervises: N/A
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly Wages)
Basic Purpose: Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of facilities for all residents, employees, & guests.
Job Summary: Perform basic housekeeping duties such as mopping, dusting, polishing, shampooing, disposal of trash, inside window washing, vacuuming, and disinfecting.
Performs other appropriate related and unrelated assigned duties.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate preferred, but not required
Licensure/Certification: n/a
Experience: Six months of experience in housekeeping preferred, but not required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Follow both oral and written instructions
- Interact effectively with residents, guests, supervisors and peers
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are ill, disabled, elderly, and/or emotionally upset
- Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment
- Follow safety regulations, reporting injuries or unsafe conditions and work practices to appropriate administrator
- Follow acceptable standards of personal hygiene and comply with department dress code
- Possess an excellent understanding of sanitation and cleanliness
- Regular, punctual and dependable attendance
- Provide assistance to and work directly with staff, residents, family of residents, visitors, government agencies and the general public
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform housekeeping duties including mopping, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, disposal of trash, washing the inside of windows, shampooing carpets, and disinfecting
- Shampooing and vacuuming of carpets, stairs, offices, apartments
- Cleaning of facility and apartment bathrooms
- Disposal of trash
- Cleaning and disinfecting of all laundry rooms, hand rails, base boards, and inside window areas
- Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them. Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment
- Fully understand all aspects of residents' rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse. Responsible for promptly reporting to the charge nurse or administrative staff incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents' rights
- Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; report environmental deficiencies to maintenance such as lighting or equipment problems
- Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials
- Support an atmosphere, which promotes a homelike environment
- Respond to inquiries relating to his/her particular area or to requests from residents, visitors, other personnel, etc. within given time frames and within established policy
- Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Self-paced requires the ability to work quickly and often-times in a fast-paced
work area
- Requires frequent to continuous physical effort; standing, grasping, balancing, carrying, bending, lifting, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Work area is generally well lit and ventilated
- Work location is both independent and health care areas of Woodlands Retirement Community including individual apartments, cottages, offices, hallways, and other surrounding areas.
