Job Overview
The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. The driver must ensure student safety, maintain order on the bus, and comply with all state, local, and district transportation regulations.

Key Responsibilities: Safe Transportation:
- Operate a school bus in a safe and responsible manner following designated routes and schedules.
- Ensure the safety of students during loading, transit, and unloading.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, school district policies, and state transportation regulations.
Student Supervision & Behavior Management:
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
- Communicate expectations and enforce bus rules fairly and consistently.
- Report any incidents, discipline issues, or concerns to the appropriate school personnel.
Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections:
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
- Report any mechanical issues or necessary repairs to the transportation department.
- Keep the bus clean and free from hazards.
Communication & Professionalism:
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Attend required training and safety meetings as scheduled by the school district.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as required by state and district policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage student behavior in a firm, yet respectful manner.
- Physical ability to operate a school bus, including sitting for extended periods, using mirrors effectively, and responding quickly in emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience driving a school bus or other commercial vehicle.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of local roads and school district boundaries.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Early morning and afternoon shifts with breaks in between.
- Additional hours may be available for field trips and extracurricular activities.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions while driving and assisting students.
