Job Summary
The Golf Shop Attendant is the first point of contact for golf course patrons and is responsible for providing excellent customer service, , handling cash and credit transactions, answering phones, interacting with patrons, providing information, handling requests and complaints, assisting with inventory control, maintaining the cleanliness of the golf shop, and ensuring the merchandise displays are properly stocked and organized.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties
- Schedule tee times and handle customer inquiries and/or complaints in accordance with operating policies and procedures.
- Ensure efficient operation and coordination of golf shop, cart service and other services as applicable.
- Interact with pass-holders, members and guests in a congenial and professional manner.
- Ensure that the golf shop is maintained per Village Greens cleanliness and appearance standards. Maintain clean, presentable and fully stocked merchandise displays.
- Be fully knowledgeable of golf shop merchandise. Sell merchandise and/or provide suggestions to patrons as appropriate to meet their needs. Assist customers with special merchandise orders.
- Assist with organizing and implementing tournaments, group outings and special events.
- Answer phones, maintain pleasant and professional telephone manner at all times. Take messages for patrons who may be on course.
- Assist patrons with information regarding tournaments, special events, club activities, policies, etc.
- Accurately record sales transactions, collect payment, and issue receipts for all merchandise sales, greens fees, car/pull cart rental fees and club rental fees.
Customer Service
- Assist with organizing and maintaining ancillary services such as the handicapping system, membership programs and driving range facilities.
Appearance
- Wear proper uniform as outlined in the Village Greens policy manual.
Cooperation & Attitude
- Assist in packing and/or unpacking inventory, arranging and displaying golf shop inventory.
- Assist with physical inventory at month end in accordance with inventory procedures.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Communication
- Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure. Sign and timely submit time card to Assistant Golf Course Manager.
Cash Handling
- Ensure accurate cash handling for all transactions with a low occurrence of overages or shortages.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:
- One year experience in golf shop and/or customer service/retail sales environment preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize computer software programs including but not limited to: Microsoft office products (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), retail software, and the internet.
- Ability to work effectively with the general public, businesses, organizations, civic groups, and park district employees.
- Ability to communicate by telephone and or two way radios.
- Ability to read, understand, remember and interpret routine documents such as safety rules as well as communicate information therein.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondences and to speak effectively before groups of participants or employees of the organization.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and adapt to change.
Education & Training
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Pay Range
- $15.00 per hour
