Description
Swim Lesson Instructors are responsible for instructing program participants in the proper form and technique of all swimming skills as well as maintaining the safety of the participants.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily and demonstrate the District’s core competencies consisting of financial accountability, integrity/ethics, job knowledge, interpersonal skills, policies & procedures compliance, work quality, risk management/safety, District/Department vision and values, adaptability/flexibility, dependability, teamwork, and productivity.
Essential Duties-
- Accept the responsibility for and perform cleaning assignments designated by the manager on duty or Swim Lesson Coordinator.
- Create and implement lesson plans.
- Enforce pool rules in a pleasant but firm way.
- Complete appropriate forms and reports for individual students.
- Supervise and instruct swimming classes as scheduled.
- Have a total working and functional knowledge of safety, rescue and first aid equipment located at the pool.
Cooperation & Attitude-
- Display and enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Motivate other staff and work as part of the team to ensure the facility runs smoothly.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Customer Service-
- Promote Cypress Cove’s products and services.
Communication-
- Use appropriate subject matter in the presence of staff and guests, especially children.
- Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure. Sign and timely submit time card to Aquatic Supervisor.
Appearance-
- Maintain a neat well-groomed appearance.
- Wear the uniform as supplied by the Park District while on duty.
Training-
- Attend and be held accountable for information presented al all required in-services and staff training (a minimum of four hours of in-services required a month.)
Focus on Job-
- Maintain a high level of readiness and be prepared to handle any situations.
- Maintain an alert status at all times when on duty and avoid any unnecessary talking with patrons or other staff members.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:
• Minimum of 14 years old.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Physical ability to swim.
• Physical ability and endurance to perform the job.
• Complete understanding of swimming skills.
• Possess a deep sense for water safety.
• Ability to work effectively with the children, parents, general public, organizations, civic groups, and park district employees.
• Ability to read, understand, remember, and interpret routine documents such as safety rules as well as communicate information therein.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondences and to speak effectively before groups of participants or employees of the organization.
• Ability to understand, remember, and apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations.
• Ability to effectively problem solve and adapt to change.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
• WSI, Lifeguard Certificate or Starguard Lifeguard License preferred.
• Obtain and maintain first-aid certification.
• Obtain and maintain adult, child & infant CPR/AED certification.
Salary : $15 - $23
