Description:
Full-time Learning Behavior Specialist position at John L Sipley Elementary
Job Summary:
1. Provide evaluation information necessary for the completion of comprehensive case studies including the administration and interpretation of academic and all necessary assessments.
2. Participate in IEP conferences including the preparation of IEP goals and paperwork in compliance with established laws, regulations, district policies, and procedures.
3. Supplement regular programs with direct instruction at the student’s instructional level, when applicable.
4. Develop and/or assist teachers in scheduling special instructional programs and classroom organization required to achieve established goals.
5. Collaborate with team members to meet student needs by establishing and implementing curriculum modifications and behavioral management programs.
6. Establish a safe, positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the development levels and interests of their students.
7. Assist in the transition of incoming and outgoing students.
8. Assist the team in establishing program monitoring systems in order to effectively evaluate the student’s progress.
9. Assist principal in the employment and evaluation of teaching assistants.
10. Provide teaching assistants orientation and ongoing training in methods needed for assigned students.
11. Develop the daily schedule of teaching assistants.
12. Provide communication with parents on an ongoing basis.
13. Act as case manager for caseload students including coordination of all related services.
14. Work cooperatively with the team in appropriate assessment, planning, methodology, evaluation and reporting strategies.
15. Assist, co-teach with and model for teachers in implementing classroom programs when appropriate.
16. Expand knowledge in areas related to the job role as Learning Behavior Specialist (including technology applications), by such means as reading current literature on students with special needs, attending professional conferences and workshops and collaborating with other professionals doing similar work.
17. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned.
Qualifications:
Professional Educator License and qualifications as set by the State Board of Education and the School Code.
LBSI endorsement required.
