Job Description
A Bakery Deli Manager is a friendly, enthusiastic person who enjoys serving and leading our Bakery Deli teammates. This role is responsible for a wide variety of complex tasks within the company. The Bakery Deli Manager supervises the day-to-day Bakery Deli activities, ensuring overall performance, identifying staffing needs, managing schedules, and developing operational action plans while assisting in mentoring and developing the Bakery Deli team.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and achieve budgets for the department and to achieve targeted sales for the.
- Excel in guest service by developing a guest service program for all department teammates to follow.
- Initiate recommendation regarding the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of department personnel.
- Conduct department meetings to review merchandising, sales planning, and operational problems while keeping teammates informed about matters that concern them on the job.
- Train and retrain all department personnel when necessary
- Develop a weekly labor schedule and budget for all department teammates for the approval of the store manager.
- Develop weekly display plans for merchandising and ad promotions to ensures that:
- Displays are full
- Color contrast is emphasized
- Product is rotated
- Commodities are grouped
- Displays are set to the season
- Adequate space has been allocated for merchandise based on movement, capacity, and profitability.
- Be observant of security problems and develop methods of prevention
- Supervise:
- Preparation for receipt of merchandise
- Checking loads for quality, shortage, overage, and code dating the case
- Sorting cases by quality
- Storage of inventory
- Verification of the merchandise against the invoice
- Supervise:
- Cleaning of department floors, mirrors, bins, tables, cooler, shelves, production equipment, scales, cases and racks
- Safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Train department team on proper use of the slicer, oven, fryers, and mixers
- Train department team on proper cleaning
- Understand and follow the Lock-Out-Tag-Out policy
- Understand the use of Temp Logs, 2 hour holding temps
- Assure the safety of self, guests and teammates by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a store manager of any potential hazard immediately.
- Supervise the safety procedures used in the operation of the baler, case cutter, pallet jack, forklift, knife, garbage disposal, juicer, pineapple corer, scales and wrapper (must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, forklift and baler).
- Count and record individual items of merchandise for inventory.
- Compute the retail price from cost, complete price changes, PLU file and scale system maintenance, and manual price labeling of merchandise without an UPC code.
- Supervise the movement of damaged, unusable, or returnable products from shelves to the backroom, the return of damage to the warehouse for credit and the re-processing of product for sale or marking the product down in price.
- Supervise the use of proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to product.
- Supervise the changing of signs, light bulbs, tags and price markers in the department.
- Communicate with the store manager on problems, recommendations for change and merchandising decisions.
- Adhere to FIFO stocking rules, consistently rotating product on the sales floor,
- Use the correct channels to request credits on any less than perfect product, and record invoice and credit information on an almost daily basis
- Supervise the checking of case and cooler temperatures 4 times daily.
- Supervise the preparation, display and packaging of all products in the deli department.
- Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the store manager, substituting for absent teammates and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to guests during peak periods of business.
Work Environment:
- Inside work with extreme variations in heat, cold, dust, humidity from compressors, cooler, freezer, equipment, and preparation area.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be 18 or older
- Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and count)
- Able to give and receive complex verbal instructions or descriptions to and from supervisors and teammates
- Able to read and write instructions, labels, printed paper and forms.
- Good interpersonal communications.
- Food Safety Certification
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior deli experience.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Stable work and education history
