Job Title: Center Store Teammate
Description: Our Center Store Teammates ensure proper presentation of merchandise on store shelves and displays, while providing friendly assistance to guests.
Reports To: Assistant Store Manager
Responsibilities:
- To greet, respond to questions, and explain store policies too all guests in a courteous manner.
- To prepare the back room for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks and sort cases according to aisle or pallet.
- To clean store floors, check-lanes, carts, restrooms, parking lot, and shelves, while safely using cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- To load stocking carts and pallets, transport cases to sales floor, match the case strip to the shelf tag or stock, place merchandise in the designated area, and "face" the front row of each display.
- To assure the safety of self, guests and teammates by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately.
- Remove all broken containers, packing materials, boxes, and trash from the sales floor or guests’ pathway immediately.
- To understand the operation, safety requirements and restraints of a baler, case cutter, pallet jack and fork lift (must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, forklift, baler, and cutters).
- To count and record individual items of merchandise for inventory.
- To manually price mark/label merchandise without an UPC code.
- To move damaged, unsalable or "returnable" products from shelves to the backroom, sorting the materials into bins for return to the damage reclaim center.
- To use the proper case opening and product stacking techniques to prevent damage to merchandise.
- To remove trash from the aisle, operating the baler, put the compacted bale on a pallet and load salvage on to trucks.
- To change signs, light bulbs, tags and price markers on the shelf display.
- To assist cashier's by bagging and carry out merchandise when needed.
- To perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substituting for absent workers and performing any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to guests during peak periods of business.
Task of the Job - This job generally includes:
- Mobility:
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to perform the following movements repeatedly and for long periods of time
- Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching
- To move cases, cardboard, and packing material from truck to designated area
- To move excess cases or damaged product from the sales floor to overhead or backroom storage
- Work on tile or concrete for a full shift
- Move and stack empty pallets approximately 15 pallets high, using the proper equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull loads of 75 lbs.
- Move a maximum of 75 lbs. onto overhead or backroom storage rack
- Use product and maintenance transportation equipment.
- Attain merchandise or cases on the top of overhead or backroom storage shelves and racks
- Clean shelves and floor
- Control maintenance and stocking equipment
- Handle case cutter and utility knife (must be 18)
- Grasp and handle wet, cold, hot, metal, paper, and plastic merchandise
- Manipulate maintenance equipment handles and grasp knobs
- Handle cash or coins if needed at the register
- move stocking carts, pallet jacks, and maintenance equipment, using the proper equipment
- move to the top of ladders, cases, shelves, and stairs
- Recognize cases, case cutter edge, case strips, shelf location, product size and description, guests, shelf tags, labels, stocking carts, packaging material , debris, aisle markers, and signs.
- Recognize cleaning and maintenance equipment, pallet jacks, forklift and bailer controls (must be 18)
- Perceive color difference on product labels
- Respond to guests, teammates, vendor, and driver questions
- To bring shopping carts into the store from the parking lot, no more than five at a time.
- Use the intercom system
- Recognize the sound of bailer, pallet jack, case cutter, and forklift.
- Read case labels, strips, signs, tags, numbers, and aisle markers
- Read equipment and chemical warning labels
Work Environment:
- Inside work with extreme variations in temperature, dust, humidity from back door, compressors, cooler, and freezer. Stockers perform their duties primarily in the grocery department and in the back room. Outside may be required.
Qualifications:
Required
- Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide, count)
- Able to give, receive complex verbal instructions, descriptions to and from supervisors and teammates concerning store or department policy and procedures and use of equipment.
- The ability to read and write English
- Make judgments concerning the placement of merchandise on the shelf/display (spatial relationship), ordering of merchandise, case opening procedures and extent of unsalable product damage.
- Able to open cases and stock so products will not be damaged.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A stable work and educational history
- Prior experience in a related type of job.
- Prior experience operating a baler, case cutter, cleaning/sanitation equipment, pallet jack and fork lift. (Must be 18 years or older to operate pallet jacks, baler, and forklift.)
