Role and Responsibilities
The Manager, Accounting is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with financial regulations, and implementing best accounting practices. This role involves supervising accounting staff, preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and supporting audits.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring professional development and high performance
- Conduct training sessions on accounting principles, company policies, and financial tools
- Supervise 1-2 Accounting Analyst / Clerk and their AR/AP and transactional duties
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable accounting standards
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes
- Manage the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, labor efficiency, and material usage to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct variance analysis (e.g., standard vs. actual costs) and provide insights to improve operational efficiency.
- Develop high level expertise in the company’s Oracle NetSuite ERP system
- Evaluate and implement improvements to financial systems, processes, and reporting.
- Develop internal cost analyses and other tools to provide management with meaningful and timely information to analyze and improve operational performance
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to optimize cost efficiency
- Timely payment of all income taxes, sales and use taxes, and employment taxes
- Serve as the primary contact with the company’s independent accountants and manage the company’s annual review.
- Review the company’s third-party prepared income tax returns and prepare LLC member personal tax returns. Partner with insurance brokers and provide the necessary information
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- Support the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA desired but not required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial regulations
- At least 4 years’ experience in an accounting role
- Proficiency in ERP and accounting software, preferably Netsuite
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Positive attitude with effective communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times
