The Spray Ground Technician at The Reserve Club is responsible for applying fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides to maintain the golf course and landscaped areas in pristine condition. This role requires a deep understanding of agronomy, chemical application safety, and equipment operation to ensure a healthy and visually appealing environment for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Chemical Application:
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure precise calibration and application of all spray equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of all applications, including chemicals used, application rates, and weather conditions.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect, maintain, and operate spray equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Perform routine cleaning and calibration of sprayers and associated tools.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or repairs needed promptly.
- Course Maintenance Support:
- Assist the Grounds Maintenance team with tasks such as mowing, edging, aeration, and irrigation system repairs.
- Monitor the condition of turf, greens, and fairways, reporting any signs of disease or stress to the Superintendent.
- Collaborate with the team to implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) during chemical applications.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and legal requirements for chemical storage, handling, and application.
- Participate in regular safety training sessions.
- Environmental Stewardship:
- Ensure responsible use of chemicals to minimize environmental impact.
- Monitor weather conditions to avoid runoff or drift during applications.
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or certification in turf management, agronomy, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in turf or grounds maintenance, with a focus on chemical applications.
- Certifications and Licensing:
- Valid pesticide applicator's license (or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of turfgrass diseases, pests, and nutrient requirements.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining spray equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
- Full-time position, with availability required on weekends and holidays as necessary.
- Early morning shifts to accommodate chemical application before course usage.
