LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN
The Landscape Construction Foreman is responsible for leading a landscape construction
crew ofup to 8 members to implement landscape projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Landscape Construction Foreman must display effective skills in customer service,
communication, project planning, scheduling and leadership. The position requires a
thorough knowledge of proper site grading, irrigation design/installation, hardscape and
plant/turf knowledge. This person will be responsible for maintaining accurate records,
promoting job worksite safety and exhibit pride and quality workmanship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Always represent the company's best interest, maintain the highest level of
integrity and professionalism.
- Understand and meet production and project schedule deadlines without
sacrificing great customer service and excellent quality.
- Maintain clean job site, orderly and stocked equipment truck.
- Lead and instruct team to produce excellent product on a consistent basis.
- Complete and maintain a variety of records and reports on materials, equipment,
service calls and personnel.
- Direct, oversee and participate in work performed by your team. This is a very
hands-on position and requires this person to perform any task they would ask
their team to do. You will be expected to work alongside them.
- Complete project documentation in an organized and timely manner.
- Collect, review, sign-off and submit team timesheets by the required deadline.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years minimum residential and commercial landscape construction experience.
- Must be professional in appearance and actions.
- Must be detailed oriented and quality driven.
- Must be well organized with strong communication skills and ability to multitask.
- Must have the ability to be proactive, plan ahead and problem solve to minimize
disruption, errors, risks and keep projects on-task, within budget and on-time.
- Understand proper principles and practices of landscaping installation, landscape
maintenance and tree care.
- Fully comprehend methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance,
repair and construction of landscaping and irrigation systems.
- Exercise proper management of working with hazards and accepted safety
precautions in the construction of landscaping, the application of pesticides,
trenching and grading of land and the operation of related tools and equipment.
- Methods of estimating time, materials and equipment needed to perform assigned
work in a safe and productive manner.
- Understand proper landscape drainage design and installation.
- Must have a strong understanding and experience reading and interpreting
landscape plans and irrigation plan specifications, technical procedures and
processes and in accordance to county and city governmental regulations.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work in a mental and physically challenging environment in various weather
conditions. This can include heavy to moderate noise, extreme proximity to
moving equipment or machinery, proximity to electrical energy.
- Operate machines for extended periods of time while sitting or standing.
- Walk, stand, crouch, kneel, bend, squat, grasp, and perform repetitive movements
for prolonged periods of time and will use hands/fingers and legs to operate,
activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect and position materials.
- Safely lift and move materials weighing 50 lbs. up to 100 lbs.
- Safely drive to various locations throughout the City and County to fulfill
assigned duties.
- Ability to work under pressure, adaptable to changing priorities.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends.
- Punctual and dependable.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the
required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in landscape
installation management.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by relevant
college or technical course work. Possession of an Associate of Arts Degree or two (2)
year degree in related field or Landscape industry certification is desirable.
License or Certificate: Possession of a valid driver's license.
