Description
Under the general direction of the Director of Training, the Personal Trainer functions as a contributing member of the Training Team providing the highest quality of service while working with member clients to create plans that assist them in achieving their fitness goals. The Personal Trainer utilizes their exceptional skills in assessment and exercise programming along with knowledge of exercise science to help guide member clients through one-on-one sessions that are suited to their individual physical capabilities. The Personal Trainer may also work in small group and related settings to support the business. This position is required to work within established budget levels to help achieve overall club goals and support the financial success of Woodside.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Provides personal assessments for all assigned member clients to review fitness goals, physical abilities and conditions to create personalized fitness routine
- Works to instruct member clients on proper techniques for exercise and equipment
- Contributes production and member client engagement which drives department financial success and continual improvement of the quality of Woodside Training services
- Assists in the development, growth, promotion and retention of all fitness services at Woodside and is required to adhere to monthly guidelines in the following areas : o Retains existing clientele (80%)
Conducts and converts new clients for training services via new member offerings including but not limited to the Ortho-Kinetics Assessment
Works continually to retain clients and confers with Training Manager where help is needed to do soPersonal Trainer is present on the fitness floor and provides assistance to members while on the fitness floorDemonstrates and maintains the image of a Training Professional : o Always acknowledges members with a friendly and helpful demeanorBegins shift / client sessions on time and focuses 100% attention during each training session
Notifies and confirms with Training Manager before altering (skip, cancel, or reschedule) client / member sessionsWears only Woodside approved uniforms; no hats allowedCarries and updates iPad with each client's specific pre-written / typed program throughout each training sessionContinually evaluates members clients' status and physical changes and makes adjustments to plan where necessary for optimal performance and improvement. This re-assessment or evaluation may include determining the member clients' body fat percentage, circumference measurements and postural compensations / functional movement patterns along with any other applicable testsAttends weekly Continuing Educationthis requirement will be flexible once 100 PT hours are serviced per month by the Personal Trainer and consistently maintained; this mandate will be enforced for any month where PT sessions fall below the 100-hour threshold.Cleans / replaces equipment after use during and after each session and assists in general fitness for cleanlinessDemonstrates, and continues to improve, all skills deemed necessary for the position such as organization, timeliness, professionalism and follow-throughBuilds and maintains all hour and budget requirements to maintain / surpass current Personal Trainer Ranking (level) as outlined by Woodside Training compensation planAttends and participates in all required continuing education, departmental and all other required staff meetingsCompletes outside continuing education as approved and directedPerforms Trainer-on-Duty hours as assignedIntegrates assigned new members into Woodside through provision of the outlined assessment protocolsFollows-up and continues to serve assigned members at the required time periods and throughout their continued membership, as well as any other assigned retention dutiesUpdates online schedule daily with schedule availability, booked Ortho-Kinetics Assessments, PT sessions, Continuing Education hours, one-on-one meetings and when applicable Small Group Training Sessions, Boot camps and any other training camps; generally, availability will be due for the following week (Monday - Sunday) by no later Thursday at 9 : 00pm of the current weekEnsures that all sessions performed have been properly checked-in through club software system and members charges have been assessed to their accountsUtilizes all digital record keeping, processes and procedures as outlined by Training ManagerEnforces all Club policies and rules to ensure a safe and comfortable environment in which clients can work outProduces required reporting documents including; Semi-monthly and Monthly Budget Reports, Client Frequency Reports, Payroll Reports and others as needed / requestedMust verify that all missed member client check-ins where the member did not show or where the client provided notice less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled session are charged to the member's account. Failure to do so will result in loss of ability to charge the client.Participates and contributes toward the promotion and delivery of all department and club special eventsPromotes member relations and exhibits Woodside core values as part of daily routineWorks alongside and treats all Woodside employees with the utmost levels of friendliness and respectMaintains clean, organized and visually appealing areas in and around all fitness areasComplies with club's employee handbook and with all applicable federal and state employment lawsParticipates and fulfills all requirements set forth in the Continuing Education Curriculum (Woodside University) ProgramCompletes all other duties as directed / assignedQualifications
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to : Education / Experience :
High School diploma or GED is requiredPersonal training and program design experience and minimum of one group fitness certification from nationally recognized fitness organization (e.g., AFAA, ACSM, ACE, NCSA) is requiredCertification by American Red Cross in Adult CPR and First Aid required within one month of hireSpecific experience in a fitness facility is preferredBachelor's Degree in physiology, kinesiology, recreation, health or related field is preferredStrong emphasis and proven experience in health and fitness is requiredSkills :
Must be self-motivated and able to engage others without reservationAbility to work collegially with a diverse group of staff and membersExcellent interpersonal communication skills, especially verballyMust be able to communicate well with heavy telephone and email communicationExcellent customer service skillsComputer literate and proficient in MS Office products and keyboard accuracy is a mustAttentive to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasksAbility to maintain a clean, safe training environment and to keep equipment functioning optimallyAbility to maintain confidentialityFitness equipment maintenanceSafety and regulatory requirementsExperience in sales and / or high-level customer service environmentLicenses / Certifications :

Perform various functions as required by WoodsideRegular and predictable attendance is requiredSchedule varies according to the needs of the member clients and the business. Work hours may extend beyond 40 hours per week. in addition to normal club business hours may be required to meet budget thresholds, work special events, promotion and other demands that required occasional early mornings late evenings and weekendsPrimarily requires standing throughout the length of the shift, but there will also be extended periods of sitting and moving throughout the facility, including providing training or demonstration of proper training techniquesAbility to move 50-100 pounds on a regular basisVisual acuity for computer workWorking Conditions :
