Description

Summary Description

The Pool Bartender provides a primary service to our members and guests and directly impacts the overall member’s food and/or drink summer experience.  Consistency and quality of drinks must be achieved every time, which requires that the bartender always follow recipes.  The Pool Bartender must be friendly, outgoing and possess the ability to communicate well.  Organization is key, and the bartender must be able to multi-task and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.

 

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Passes the Responsible Service of Alcohol Test with a score of 90% or better
  • Ensures high level of customer service and attention to each member, making sure to acknowledge each member within 30 seconds of reaching the bar area and touching base with the member throughout their visit
  • Attends to all members and/or guests – anticipate rather than making the member and/or guest ask for assistance; offer another drink when their first one is half-full
  • Learns member names and drink preferences whenever possible
  • Possesses a modern working knowledge of basic craft cocktail practices, all spirit groups and beer styles and a basic understanding of popular wine varietals and regions
  • Works directly with Bar Manager to prepare any juices, syrups and ancillary cocktail ingredients, and batches certain cocktails before service or on a separate day than when working behind the bar
  • Works diligently and communicates efficiently with other Food Drink staff to help coordinate member orders for food from the kitchen
  • Mixes, garnishes and serves all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks following recipes
  • Utilizes the POS system for all bar purchases through MICROS
  • Follows all outlined Accounting and cash handling policies and procedures
  • Properly handles Lost & Found items per outlined policies and procedures
  • Secures upfront authorization of payment from members of all sales whether by membership account, credit card or cash
  • Keeps track of number of drinks served per customer; ensures that they do not exceed the allotted number of drinks
  • Guarantees that all beer, liquor, wine, etc. inventory is kept under lock & key
  • Does not overpour or give drinks away for free
  • Maintains a clean and well-stocked bar area per Woodside guidelines and ensures all bottles and glasses are arranged correctly
  • Washes and sterilizes all glassware
  • Evaluates members and/or guests to determine if they have reached their limit and if they are capable of driving
  • Maintains clean, organized and visually appealing areas in and around all food drink outlets
  • Moves throughout the shift with purpose
  • Attends to all members and/or guests in a timely manner
  • Reports any aggressive, suspicious and/or ill member and/or guest behavior to the acting MOD
  • Stays informed of all club policies, activities and events as to accurately provide information, event details or relay policies correctly
  • May at times be asked to support special events within Club
  • Complies with Club’s employee handbook manual, departmental policies and procedures and with all applicable federal and state employment laws
  • All other duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications


Job Standards

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

 

Education/

Experience:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience is required
  • Prior work as a bartender is required
  • Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits and of general drink recipes is required
  • Ability to process basic math skills for change and operate a POS system is required

Licenses/

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License, or reliable form of transportation to and from work each shift

 

 

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to stand during entire shift
  • Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe
  • Remain stationary for long periods of time
  • Frequently wash hands
  • Able to manipulate fingers, hands and arms to cut, measure, pour, serve, carry and wipe
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Ability to move or lift as much as 50 pounds or more on a regular basis
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in written form
  • Interest in wellness and/or fitness is a plus

 

Working Conditions:

  • Operates in and around pool area in extreme weather conditions walking and standing
  • Required to work both in and outside in high heat summer temperatures
  • Working in around lots of people where noise levels can be excessive
  • Flexible and changing working hours – must be available per business needs
  • Schedule will vary based on weather and the needs of the business, particularly for special events, promotions, etc.
  • Hazards may include, but are not limited to: minor cuts, slipping and tripping
