Job Title: Tree Crew, Ground Worker
Location: Montague, Massachusetts
Pay Range: $20-25/hr depending on experience and qualifications
About the Job:
Woodsmith Forestry & Tree Service is seeking an enthusiastic applicant to join our tree crew for the 2025 season. This is a full-time, benefited position with a start date in March or April. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated person new to the industry who wants to build skills and “learn the ropes” from experienced mentors, or an experienced ground worker who wants to further their skills in an excellent work environment. The applicant will work as part of a team to complete residential tree service work. Primary work will include tree removals, structural and fine pruning, and cabling, as well as occasional tree planting, field mowing, firewood processing, sawmilling, stump grinding, and other tree-related services.

Education
No formal education is required for this position. A degree in forestry, arboriculture, or related field could be helpful, as would non-traditional educational experience.

- Current drivers license, with excellent driving record is a must
- Previous tree work experience
- New England plant and tree ID skills
- Experience backing up a trailer and driving a 1-ton size truck
- Game of Logging or similar professional chainsaw training
- Invasive plant control
- Trail work
- Landscaping

- Mechanical aptitude
- Carpentry and/or sawmilling experience
- Wilderness or front country medical experience
- Experience operating equipment, such as tractors, ATV/UTV, mini excavator, stump grinder, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Tree work is a physically demanding job, we prioritize working smart and taking care of our bodies at work. The applicant should be in top physical condition and fully capable. The candidate can expect exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, mud, snow, rain, power equipment, insects, wildlife, and wind in a variety of environments. Tree crew members regularly lift heavy loads, often in excess of 50 lbs.
Likewise, safety is paramount. There are significant occupational hazards that go with the work we do. The successful candidate needs to understand the risks and hazards associated with tree work, be willing to work in an environment where they are exposed to such dangers, and be ready to follow company standards to mitigate risk.
Schedule:
This hourly position will work 35-40 hours/week. Most Woodsmith employees are on a 4 day per week schedule, and work-life balance is a big part of our culture. Work starts at 7:30AM at our shop location in Montague MA. Overtime opportunities are available, but not required.
Location:
Our shop and office are based in Montague, Massachusetts. We typically work within a half hour to 45 minute drive of our HQ, occasionally we travel further. No overnight stay is expected.
