TITLE: Director of Food Services
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with an academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field, School Nutrition
Specialist (SNS) preferred;
OR Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and a State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors;
OR Bachelor’s degree in any academic major and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition program experience;
OR Associate’s degree, or equivalent educational experience*, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field, and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition program experience.
2. Minimum of two years’ experience in food service, preferably as a
Director of Food Services
3. Food Service Sanitation Certification required
4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills: and the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population
5. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, Google and Point of Sale
Software

REPORTS TO: Associate Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Food Service Personnel, Secretary
JOB GOAL: To provide the necessary leadership for the efficient and economical operation of the district food services program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interviews, hires, trains, and manages all department staff.
2. Assigns and supervises the duties of the cafeteria managers and supervisors.
3. Develops standards for purchasing, bidding and ordering of all supplies and equipment.
4. Actively participates in purchasing cooperative and/or develop specifications for purchase of food supplies, nonfood supplies and equipment through formal and informal bid solicitations in accordance with District policies and State and Federal laws.
5. Coordinates preparation of information for audit purposes for state and federal regulations of the Child Nutrition Program.
6. Implements annual distributor order guides for managers/supervisors, oversees ordering and delivery schedules and oversees payments to department vendors.
7. Prepares all district menus, standardized recipes, and production methods to meet all applicable regulations.
8. Administers federally funded school breakfast program, national school lunch program, afterschool snack program, and summer school when required.
9. Establishes and maintains procedures for coordinating, purchasing, and preparing food for daily meals, special activities, vending, satellite operations and catering functions.
10. Establishes and maintains sanitation standards in full compliance with state and/or county regulations as appropriate.
11. Inspects school food service facilities and operations and coordinates the monitoring of food service equipment for proper operation.
12. Overseas all food preparation and serving in each building. Visits all buildings as often as possible.
13. Coordinates the completion of nutritional analysis for all menus.
14. Keeps up to date on product nutrition information and allergen information.
15. Coordinates the updates of applicable websites.
16. Prepares the food service budget and monitors department budget, including Federal and
State reimbursements, other income projections and control of expenditures.
17. Approval of the food service department payroll expenditures and labor schedules.
18. Communicates with Board of Education, District Administration, District personnel, students and parents about all aspects of school meal programs.
19. Directs and implements a plan for professional growth for the Food Services staff by providing trainings for the annual inservice training to meet the federal Professional
Standards regulations
20. Abides by all state and federal laws applicable to the School Nutrition Program.
21. Directs the District Food Service program in conformance with the Federal and State laws and regulations, local and state health department ordinances, and School District policies
22. Responsible for all federal meal program reports and claims.
23. Prepares, coordinates and files all reports required by the State and Federal governments.
24. Assists in administering the district wellness policy goals, and objectives and serves on the
District wellness committee
25. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the district’s point of sale software systems used by the department.
26. Utilize USDA commodity food allocations for maximizing allocation resources.
27. Attends professional development opportunities as needed to meet USDA Professional
Development requirements and to retain credentialing and/or licensures.
28. Responsible for the administration and oversite of the free and reduced meal program including applications and approvals as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
29. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
30. Protects the confidentiality of district and office records and information unless authorized and directed by the superintendent to provide same when requested under the Illinois
Freedom of Information Act.
31. Protects the confidentiality of student records and information according to Board of
Education policy and regulations, Illinois Student Records Act and the Family Education and Privacy Act.
32. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Associate Superintendent.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Eleven or Twelve month position with salary and conditions established by the Board of
Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Associate Superintendent.
