Location: Woodville Pellets – Port Arthur Terminal
Overview
Woodville Pellets is seeking a dynamic Terminal and Logistics Manager to oversee all logistics, freight, and terminal operations at our Port Arthur facility. This role is critical to ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective transportation and vessel loading operations for one of the largest pellet production and export facilities in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Ground Logistics
- Manage over $5 million in logistics costs for both Woodville and Port Arthur sites.
- Oversee labor, maintenance, and loading costs specific to the Port Arthur terminal.
- Lead all freight logistics operations, including inbound and outbound shipments at the Port Arthur Terminal.
- Supervise a fleet of 5 trucks, 12 trailers, and 7 drivers, ensuring DOT compliance and cost efficiency.
- Contract and manage third-party logistics providers (currently ~20 loads/day across multiple vendors).
- Schedule and oversee scale house personnel and truck drivers, responding in real-time to production demands.
- Collaborate on equipment configuration and capital equipment selection.
- Coordinate with internal departments to meet customer shipping deadlines.
- Support and implement company policies and performance goals.
- Enforce health and safety standards across all terminal logistics operations.
- Supervise team members, conduct performance reviews, and identify ongoing training needs.
Sea Freight & Pellet Storage Operations
- Full operational responsibility for the Port Arthur storage and vessel loading facility (5 silos, ~50,000 tons shipped every two months).
- Manage all aspects of maritime vessel loading: scheduling, quality assurance, safety, and real-time reporting.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free terminal environment.
- Operate terminal equipment including forklifts, bobcats, cranes, fire suppression systems, and control systems.
- Enforce all company safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, confined space permits, and related protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop deep expertise in fire prevention, suppression equipment, and safety procedures within the first 6 months.
Leadership & Compliance
- Lead a 24-hour terminal operations team including 8 direct reports (mechanics, electricians, etc.).
- Maintain a safe operation during vessel loadout and silo activity.
- Uphold cleanliness and safety of the terminal at all times.
- Coordinate daily with the Woodville Mill team through virtual meetings.
- Conduct regular fire suppression drills to ensure emergency readiness.
- Liaise with regulatory and government agencies as required (Port Authority, TCEQ, OSHA, USCG, Port Arthur Fire Department).
- Be available to support a 24/7 operational environment.
Critical Control & System Integrity
The successful candidate will ensure the integrity of all control systems vital to safety and operational excellence.
Responsibilities include:
- Clear Expectations: Enforce strict compliance with all critical control systems — no exceptions.
- System Oversight: Conduct audits to verify system functionality and prevent unauthorized workarounds.
- Visible Leadership: Provide active, hands-on leadership in safety and compliance practices.
- Emergency Readiness: Lead regular emergency drills and ensure team preparedness.
- System Mastery: Acquire deep knowledge of all operational control systems within the first 6 months.
- Escalation & Resolution: Apply zero-tolerance to system deviations; lead prompt issue resolution.
