Position Summary: This position involves teaching middle school social studies to students in grades 7 and 8, including Medieval History, United States History, and Government/Economics, as required.

Specific Duties Include

• Instructing students in subject content along with reading and grading student written work
• Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students' needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
• Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
• Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
• Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement pre-designed course syllabi, lessons, and final exam and term paper
• All other duties as assigned
  
  

Required Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
• Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Google Apps Suite, Microsoft Office, Interactive Whiteboard, in a 1:1 iPad environment
• A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills
• Ability to instruct students in writing research papers utilizing the Chicago style, or a demonstrated willingness to learn and implement it
  
  

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in History or Education with an emphasis in history education from an accredited institution of higher learning
• 3 years of successful teaching in middle school preferred
• Independent school experience preferred, but not required
  
  

The Social Studies Teacher, Middle School position is a exempt, 10-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
