Accordingly, Woodward has adopted a drug-free workplace policy, which includes substance abuse testing of all employees and applicants, in accordance with applicable state law. Position Summary: This position involves teaching middle school social studies to students in grades 7 and 8, including Medieval History, United States History, and Government/Economics, as required.
Specific Duties Include
- Instructing students in subject content along with reading and grading student written work
- Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students' needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
- Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
- Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
- Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement pre-designed course syllabi, lessons, and final exam and term paper
- All other duties as assigned
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
- Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Google Apps Suite, Microsoft Office, Interactive Whiteboard, in a 1:1 iPad environment
- A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
- Ability to instruct students in writing research papers utilizing the Chicago style, or a demonstrated willingness to learn and implement it
- Undergraduate degree in History or Education with an emphasis in history education from an accredited institution of higher learning
- 3 years of successful teaching in middle school preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
