Job Summary:
The Speech Language Therapist (SLP) will diagnose, plan, and treat speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive disorders. The Speech Language Pathologist will also be responsible for documenting patient treatments, changes in condition and other pertinent information as required.
SLP Duties/Responsibilities:
o Evaluate Residents conditions for swallowing or cognitive deficits.
o Help Residents in their goals to improve Cognition or Swallowing
o Education for Residents and Caregivers
o Provide skilled, medically necessary speech and language therapy assessments as well as develop and implement individualized treatment plans to increase client’s independence and functioning.
o Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders.
o Provide training and education to clients, family, caregivers, and other professionals as a subject matter expert.
o Coordinate and collaborate with other professionals for diagnostic swallowing procedures (MBSS, FEES) as ordered by physician.
o Demonstrate competent technical skills according to current Speech Therapy standards of practice.
o Communicate changes in resident’s condition.
o Provide accurate and timely billing records and supporting clinical documentation.
o Respond to family requests and concerns timely.
o Coordinate and provide training with Restorative Nursing and other Care staff.
o Assure resident abuse or neglect does not occur.
o Observe confidentiality and safeguards for all patient information.
o Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements.
SLP Skills:
o SNF/Long term care experience preferred.
o Current knowledge of treatment practices
o Knowledge of Net Health Electronic Documentation System preferred.
o Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.
Required Licensure:
o Active/Valid Texas license in Speech-Language Pathology
o Current ASHA Certification
o In good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards
