POSITION : 5.5 Hours Per Day (Monday - Friday, AM and PM)

Nine (9) Month Position

Salary Range : $20.50 - $25.56 Per Hour GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

Operates vans to transport students with or without disabilities to / from school; performs routine vehicle safety and maintenance checks; prepares and maintains related records and reports as assigned; represents the Wooster City School District in a favorable image at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training and / or experience in working with students with disabilities.
  • A current, valid Ohio driver's license -CDL preferred not required
  • Maintain a current ODE Van Certification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Operates van to transport students with or without disabilities to / from schools and field trips as assigned; assists students on and off vehicles; assigns seats; takes attendance and maintains order; ensures seat belts are fastened; keeps vehicles neat and clean; administers first aid.
  • Performs daily safety and maintenance checks on assigned vehicles (e.g., checks tires, signals, lights, oil, power steering, radiator and transmission fluid level, heater, defroster and wipers); reports repairs needed for required maintenance.
  • Serves as liaison between students' home and school in the delivery of notes, money, etc.; attends in-service training as required.
  • Copes with stressful situations related to students.
  • Maintains physical capability to appropriately lift and manage students with or without disabilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for safety of students with or without disabilities while in employee's care.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists co-workers as required.
  • Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned.
  • INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS AND PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Occasional operation of vehicles under inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Occasional interaction among unruly children.
  • KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS : (

  • KNOWLEDGE OF : Board policies and procedures

  • driving laws and regulations, safe driving practices and procedures, the nature and needs of students with disabilities.
  • ABILITY TO : lift, move and position students, communicate effectively with students, staff and parents, carry out oral and written instructions, establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    SKILL IN : Defensive driving, driving in inclement weather.
